Location, Climate
Nice is one of the largest cities in France that is situated on the French Riviera coast along the Meditteranean Sea. It is the second largest city in the region of the Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur and consists of two beautiful bays. The weather in Nice is pleasant all throughout the year having warm summers and cool winters. Rainfalls are not frequent in Nice, but to be sure, visit before late March when it starts getting rainy.
Brief History
Traces of human settlement in Nice dates as far as 400,000 years ago but it was known to be discovered by the Greeks of Marseille during 350 BC. The Greeks called this city “Nikaia” which was derived from the Greek goddess of victory namely Nike.
Events, Landmarks, Activities
Thousands of tourists visit Nice each year to join the annual Nice Carnival which is held every February and features colorful floats, parades and fireworks. A must-see for music lovers is Nice's Jazz Festival which is held every July and known to be one of the biggest jazz festivals in Europe. The most popular area in Nice is Promenade des Anglais which is a lovely promenade where people can relax, dine and skate. There are also several religious sites in Nice that are worth-visiting such as the Nice Cathedral, Russian Orthodox Cathedral, Church of Saint Joan of Arc and Basilica of Notre-Dame de Nice.
Transportation
The best way to get around Nice is on foot since most attractions are at the center but for farther destinations, take the bus or rent a car. Taxis are pretty expensive here.
