Good Value for a Budget Traveler
I thought this hotel was very good for what I paid. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The continental breakfast was decent. It is only a few blocks from the metro and the bus stops needed to catch the buses to get to Terminal A and B stations. The Omonia Square area has many nice cafes and restaurants that are not too expensive. The rooms were very clean and not as bad as I expected after reading other reviews. I stayed three different times during my trip. My first room was on the main street, which was a little noisy, but the rooms opposite are much less noisy. I didn't see too many of the prostitutes and drug addicts described in other reviews, just many groups of immigrants hanging out on the street at night. But it did not feel dangerous and there was a police station just a block or two away, so there were always many police officers on the streets. I would stay there again. |

Cheap and very basic
If, like me, all you are after is cheap and basic accommodation and intend to spend all day sightseeing (thereby spending the minimum of time in your hotel room), then Amaryllis Hotel would be a fine choice. It is an excellent base for sightseeing, only 5 minutes from Omonia metro station, close to the shops and within walking distance of all the major sights. However, if you are going on a romantic break to Athens, you may wish to avoid this hotel!!
The quality of the rooms was adequate, but by no means faultless. The rooms were supposedly refurbished. On the plus side, the room has been painted, there was a television the air conditioning functioned OK and the desk and chair seem like relatively recent acquisitions. On the other side, the night noise coming from outside can be very disturbing for a while. Did not get to have a breakfast, but could easily fill up myself with something decent in the city center. All in all, Amaryllis Hotel is for travelers tightly on budget and not minding the cheap accommodation offer. |

perfect location in a cheap accommodation
My partner and I planned a travel trip through Europe by train. Our requests were - moderately cheap close to town and close to the train station. Well, the central part was perfect. The Amaryllis is a 2min walk from a main part of town with easy access to everything you would want to see. The reception looked lovely. A clean room with clean bathroom was given, but yet outdated and shabby. Overall, our requests had been met and we were fine with our choice. |
