Amsterdam is a top tourist destination in the Netherlands and this vibrant city can be found in North Holland and on the riverbanks of IJ and Amstel. The climate in Amsterdam is mild and damp and the best time to go here is between months of April to May when the tulips are in full bloom and the weather is fine.
The name of the city originated from “Aemstelledamme” which means “the dam across the Amstel”. This all started when a fisherman decided to build a dam at the riverbanks of Amstel during 1204 A.D. Its name was soon changed to Amsterdam and officially named a city in 1300.
