Ancona is an important port city in Italy. It is located in the Marche region along the Adriatic Sea. The climate of Ancona is a combination of continental and Mediterranean with warm summers and cold winters. It is not advisable to book a cheap hotel between August and September because of the frequent thunderstorms. Most tourists prefer booking cheap hotels during summer, spring and autumn.
The Greek settlers from Syracuse discovered Ancona around 387 BC. The name of the city was given by the Greeks which means “elbow” because the harbor has an elbow-shape. During the Roman period, Ancona retained the design of its coins and continued using the Greek language.
