Location, Climate
Ancona is an important port city in Italy. It is located in the Marche region along the Adriatic Sea. The climate of Ancona is a combination of continental and Mediterranean with warm summers and cold winters. It is not advisable to book a cheap hotel between August and September because of the frequent thunderstorms. Most tourists prefer booking cheap hotels during summer, spring and autumn.
Brief History
The Greek settlers from Syracuse discovered Ancona around 387 BC. The name of the city was given by the Greeks which means “elbow” because the harbor has an elbow-shape. During the Roman period, Ancona retained the design of its coins and continued using the Greek language.

The people of Ancona really know how to party and you can experience that during the Summer Jamboree which is held every month of August. This annual music festival features international DJ's and live bands performing all night. If sightseeing is your thing, then Ancona won't disappoint you because there are many interesting attractions in this city including the Ancona Cathedral which sits on top of Guasco Hill, Serenellini's Accordion Factory and the Pinacoteca Comunale. The perfect place to relax and appreciate the beauty of nature is at Parco del Cardeto or at Mount Conero & Beaches.
Transportation
There are six bus routes in Ancona which makes it the choice of transportation of many locals and even tourists. Taxis are more convenient for tourists especially those traveling in groups. For long-distance travels, you can ride the train at the Ancona railway station.
