We recentlly stayed at the Aressana for our first trip to Santorini.
Even though there is no caldera view (its a 10 second walk) the hotel compensates with a staff that was helpful and friendly. Ask for room 24--great sunrise and large terrace. Koukoumavlos restaurant is excellent as well.

I recently stayed at the Aressana on my first trip to Santorini and was extremely pleased with the hotel. The staff is very friendly and accomodating. The included breakfast is quite generous. The pool area is really beautiful. Rooms (at least the one I was in) are very basic.
Not bad but not overly luxurious. Clean, satellite TV, robe and slippers provided. My only complaint would be the towels- they were like sandpaper! Location is very convenient. Although it is not actually on the caldera, it is just a few steps away. And the fact that you don't have to walk up and down stairs, are two minutes away from the main square and close to the stores more than makes up for it.
Also, the way the pool is in the middle of the hotel kind of allows you to have a vacation within a vacation. Would definitely stay at this hotel again.
