My wife and I just returned from a 4-day trip to Vienna, our first time there. We had a great time due not in short part to our accomodations at the Ananas Hotel. The location of the hotel is phenomenal, being literally 10 feet from the U-4 station, which made getting to anywhere in Vienna extraordinarily easy. The hotel had a generally attractive, young and friendly crowd (about 30-40% American tourists, the others from other parts of Europe or Asia) and the staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful. The bar was a lot of fun and usually did not close until after 2 am. The breakfast buffet was also good, with several meats, cheeses, fruit juices, coffee, rolls, breads, butter, jams, honey, eggs and dessert cakes. One annoying occurrence was an unexpected 50+ Euro charge when we were checking out because some of the TV channels were "pay" but were automatically billed if you watched them (there was no "activation" required on the part of the viewer).
Also, there were lots of "free" channels but the only English speaking ones were CNN and MTV.
The "Motto" restaurant, a pharmacy, a pizza place, several cafes and a falafel restaurant were also within walking distance of the hotel. The staff were always willing to make suggestions regarding activities and/or dining, and would even call restaurants for us to make reservations. All in all, we had a great stay in Vienna and recommend this hotel strongly.
P.S. Our recommedations for things to do in Vienna: the Hofburg, Baden, Grinzing in the Vienna Woods, Schonnbrun Palace, the Kartnerstrasse |
