I recently spent 3 days at the Avenue. Had a single room which was small but had all you need. Who goes to Adam to spend time in the room anyway? The bed was ok, bathroom clean, plenty of hot water and pressure. A little bit noisy from the trams and pedestrians on the street but not intolerable. Breakfast was typical, scrambled eggs, bacon, juice, rolls, coffee. Very convenient to Central Station, the Dam and a variety of attractions. Not 5 star but certainly worth the money.

Excellent central location, walking distance from railway station, even with luggage. Helpful friendly staff/everyone speaks English. Breakfast plentiful and served until 10am.
Rooms clean ... but so small, totally different to the advertised photograph. The wardrobe had room for just four hangers and the view was of other windows looking down on us over a kind of roof area with discarded cigarette's etc. Asked for a possible room change without luck. As this was a special birthday treat for my husband it was very disappointing. Suggest if you book that you check on your room size first!

Stayed there for 10 days in April/May, and thought the Avenue had a great location, close enough to everything, but just far enough away to be quiet. The room was nice and big, and very clean. Had a great view out french doors to St. Jacobstraat, the little alley nest door that leads to shopping and everything else. The staff was real friendly and efficient. I would definately reccomend the hotel, and would be glad to stay there again.

Absolutely brilliant hotel, somehow right slap bang in the middle of everything, yet just enough out of the way for it to be really quiet and peaceful at night. Our room was on the top floor, was plenty big enough, nice and clean, and with a highly impressive sparkling white en suite bathroom. A door/large window opened overlooking the alleyway near us, which we used to go directly to the centre. Breakfast small yet filling, try the mini potato cakes, they're excellent. The walk to centraal only takes 5 mins tops. If you're going to Amsterdam and intend to be near the centre of town, but far enough away to escape the noise, this is the one for you.

We stayed in this hotel in Jan 2003 for 3 nights. We where made so welcome by the hotel staff. Very friendly and polite. Our room was ready for us at 10am. Which was great. The room was very nice and bathroom was spotless. Our room had french doors that opened up, which was nice. The buffet breakfast was very good. This was our 3rd stay in Amsterdam, we picked this hotel because we got a great deal. Very glad we stayed there. In fact when we go again in June 2004, we have already rebooked this hotel.
We travel a lot to Amsterdam, and like to try out the different hotels.
This is well worth a stay, also in a great location. Central Station is a mere 10 min walk.

I've stayed at the Avenue Hotel on three separate occasions. It is conveniently located just a five minute walk from Amsterdam's Centraal Station on a fairly busy, wide street that has cars and trams circulating. It is not the quietest location, but it is lively and surrounded by some pretty buildings. It is just a short walk to Dam Square from the hotel, so you are definitely in the central part of the city. The hotel is a 3 star hotel, so don't expect luxury. That said, it is clean, well furnished, and includes a full buffet breakfast as part of the room cost. The lobby and rooms are tastefully done with modern decor using subdued tones and wooden furnishings. The single rooms are small by American standards, but that is to be expected of hotels in the Avenue's category. If you want large rooms, expect to pay more at more upscale locations. I've stayed at other more expensive three star hotels in Amsterdam and the Avenue is by far the best.

The Avenue was OK for the price. It's a good location especially if you are arriving by train as we did. The breakfast was the largest we had in Europe. The staff is friendly and helpful. On the down side, our room was dark and the bath very small. The ceilings in the hallways were very low and in our room, there were low beams across the ceiling.
Our son is 6'4" and his head almost touched the ceiling in the hallways and the beams in the room. He also had to bend over in the shower. We were on the 5th floor so don't know if all the rooms are this way.

19th to 22nd December 2003. 3 nights B & B.I booked the Avenue hotel on line. It suited our needs perfectly for a 3 night stay in Amsterdam.
Close to all the central attractions, Red Light district, canal tours, shops, bars and trams.Friendly staff, a clean warm hotel with great buffet breakfast. The Motimahal Indian restaurant and London Bridge "British pub" across the road can also be reccomended. 5 mins walk to Centraal railway station. The single rooms we booked had TV, bath, shower, telephone but no drink making facilities.I would have no hesitation in reccomending on my experience and would certainly book it again.
