Belek's history began in the 4th century BC when there were only around 70 families living in the area. The town was named by the immigrants from Crete and the population continued to increase as new settlers from Bulgari and Cyprus arrived in Belek.

The most extravagant event in Belek is the Turkish International Salsa Festival in May which showcases the skillful moves of the salsa dancers and features beach parties, dance lessons and sports tournaments. Belek offers several natural attractions and the most prominent is the marvelous Kurnsulu Waterfall which features a hidden cave and houses more than 100 bird species. There are also a few ancient sites in Belek that are worth-exploring such as the Aspendos Amphitheater and the Roman Ruins at Perge.
Driving a car in Belek gives you freedom to explore the city, but roads can get confusing sometimes so make sure to bring a map with you. Call in advance for a car rental to assure of having a car once you get to Belek. If you prefer to not to drive, you can ride a taxi but make sure you choose a licensed one.
