Me and my husband spent 10 days at this Hotel in June 2004 and had a great time. The room was spotlessly clean and a good size and the view from the balcony over the bay of Naples and Vesuvius was fantastic. The buffet breakfast was good with plenty of choice and the staff were friendly. We would definitely stay here again.

This was our first trip to Italy (Feb. 2004) and this hotel was our
first stop. I would highly recommend this hotel. We thought the
location, rooms and staff were great. Although I had reserved 2 double
rooms for 2 nights over the internet in a non-refundable deal, our
daughter was unable to join us the first night. The front desk offered
(before I asked) to cancel the 2nd room and put a rollaway bed in our
room which saved us some money. The front desk also let me use their
phone to call my daughter in Florence when I was having trouble using
the phone in the room (turns out I was doing something wrong) but I
know in NYC that would never happen!!
Our room was a good size, the bathroom was very large, modern, tiled with tub. When we opened our Large floor to ceiling french doors, we were stunned by the amazing view of the bay of Naples, Mount Vesuvius and Capri. Our daughters room the second night was next to ours, but was a corner room, with 2 sets of french doors with great views.; The hotel was in a nice location, able to walk in 10-15 minutes to main sts. with shops and restaurants. Taxis would
usually be in front of the hotel or the one next door. The decor of the
lobby was 'old world' , it had an interesting history, and very nice
old furnishings. We did not use their restaurant, but they have a great
rooftop patio with a bar/cafe in the nice weather that has the same
wonderful view of the city and the bay, Mt Vesuvius, etc.
As Naples is built on a hill overlooking the bay of Naples, to get from the hotel down to the waterfront area, you would have to zig zag back and forth on the streets (if walking) but the hotel owns property across the street with gardens and steps and paths that make it a more direct route.
The cab drivers in Naples were the friendliest and nicest of all the
cities we visited in Italy. We would definitely recommend this Hotel
and would stay there again.

I fail to see why this hotel is so popular. We expected "old world charm" and that is certainly true. Services are surprisingly poor here.
We only stayed there for 1 night and had 2 bad encounters. First, the front desk told me that "I do not want to talk to you" and hung up the phone when I asked about the no hot water problem (which apparently the boiler broke). Second, we ate dinner at the hotel restaurant. The head-waiter only served a portion of our appetizers and wheeled our food to this other customer sitting 2 tables away from us. The head-waiter gave this customer the entire appetizer that he ordered and told this customer that he should try these other appetizers ...
serving half of my mother's appetizer and one-third of my appetizer to this customer. We were stunned and speechless.

My wife and I spent a night here in June 2003. We were en route to Pompeii but wanted to go to the National Museum in Naples to see the frescoes, statues, and mosaics which were removed from Pompeii. The hotel itself is very nice, old style elegant. The staff was helpful, and the price was good. The main drawback was the neighborhood, which was not attractive. The room was quite large and comfortable (an advantage of old over new hotels), and the air conditioning worked well (sometimes a problem in old hotels). My wife was not feeling well, so we used room service for dinner; I thought the food was perfectly reasonable.

I stayed here in a single room in January 2003. I had a very quiet, spacious, high-ceilinged room, nicely apppointed and carpeted, luxurious bath with a strong, hot shower with detachable hose, two beds in a single room. My room was out the back but for a higher price you can have a stunning view of the Bay of Naples. The room was a bit cool in the night but there were plenty of blankets. I paid 70 per night. The staff was efficient and very helpful with some of the complicated questions I put to them. Great breakfast buffet -- fruit, choice of juices, cereals, a selection of breads, a real spread in genteel, cultivated surroundings. Ask for cappuccino. Great location, safe and five minutes walk from the Aquarium, a travel agency, the Metro, the funicular and the great Pizzeria Antonio. Taxi stand just outside the door.

Would definitely stay here again! From our hotel room, the views of the bay and the Vesuvius were breathtaking and a real treat. Our room was a triple; airy with high ceilings and a very well maintained bathroom. The décor captured the charm of an old and elegant time. The best thing about the hotel, however, is the staff. Without exception, they were friendly, helpful and professional. They advised us well on how to get around the city -- giving us plenty of good tips and maps and telling us which best bus routes to use. Whatever our request, they went out of their way to help, so we felt well looked after and perfectly comfortable moving around the city.
The hotel itself is well connected and yet nicely tucked away from the bustle and noise that Naples is so often associated with. There is a bus stop across the road from the hotel. Buses take you directly to the metro station (Amadeo) in a few minutes, to Piazza Vittoria - where one can get plenty of buses to other parts of the city, and the port (Mollo Beverello) - a direct connection to Capri. The Metro Amedeo is also just a short 5 - 8 minutes walk down the hill, using some steps across the road. We found them safe and convenient to use during the day. We took the hotel?€™s advice and used their taxi pick up service from the Airport to the hotel at a cost which we thought was a good investment on the first day of arrival before we had got to know the good and the bad areas in town.
I must recommend a restaurant/pizzeria that sits just at the bottom of the steps ?€“across Britannique - "Dall'Amico Gamberone". The food is good (especially for the fish lovers) and not at all expensive and the service is very enthusiastic and friendly. Only wish we could have explored it more. All in all, we enjoyed our stay in Naples and without a doubt; it was made easier by the staff at the Britannique. A highly recommendable hotel in a very decent area.
