Location, Climate
Chamonix is a premiere holiday destination in France. It is situated under the magnificent Mont Blanc and features cold, snowy winters and warm, rainy summers. Brief History
Tourism in Chamonix started to grow in early 19th century which formed the Compagnie des Guides de Chamonix. This association was tasked to regulate the entry to the mountain slopes, but was banished when the French government took action around 1892. Chamonix adapted to the new policy and changed its name to Chamonix-Mont-Blanc in 1916.

If you are planning to travel to Chamonix in July, then you are in for a real treat because of the huge events held during that time including the Cosmo Jazz Festival, Tour de France and World Climbing Championships. Aside from offering excellent ski locations, Chamonix also boasts of its many natural attractions including Mer de Glace or also known as Ice Sea, which is one of Europe's largest glaciers. Another impressive site is the Aiguille du Midi rock, which can be seen over the glaciers and snowfields.
Transportation
The most convenient way to get around Chamonix is by riding a taxi, but it is quite expensive. Chamonix has an excellent railway service. Get a free ride by catching the shuttle buses. Riding a bicycle is a good choice during summer season.
