Chrissi Amoudia Hotel's location in Crete is enviable as it is one of the few hotels in Crete in Greece, which is set amidst the scenic, ethnic and historical sites of Crete.
The Archaeological Museum of Heraklion is very close to the hotel and is a popular destination among tourists. The Catholic religious residence of St. Francisco was situated where the museum is presently situated. This is because the Catholic religious residence of St. Francisco was destroyed to a large extent by a cataclysmic earthquake in 1856.
The Archaeological Museum of Heraklion was erected at the same spot by the year 1940 after almost forty-years of architectural toil.
The first floor of the Archaeological Museum of Heraklion displays vestiges of frescoes of the Minoan Palace of Knossos. All artifacts and frescoes are displayed in the museum according to their dates of design. When the visitors walk around the Museum, they will witness architectural evidence showing the gradual growth and progress in the art of pottery from the Neolithic Period, thousands of years before the birth of Christ to the period around 1100 BC. |
