Great location, great hospitality!
The Colonna Palace is ideally situated between the Pantheon and Trevi Fountain. It's an ideal spot for exploring the city, with the Metro station at the Spanish Steps about a 20-minute walk away. Rooms are typically small but clean. The terrace cafe is a great way to start the day with an ample buffet breakfast and capaccuinos. Nice bar area off the lobby.

The location of this hotel is excellent and the quality is pretty good too. Everything is within easy walking distance - The Pantheon is just around the corner and the Trevi fountain is a few minutes stroll away. Our room was fairly large, quiet, clean and comfortable and overlooked the Parliament building. My parents room was a bit small and dingy but we had a word with the receptionist who moved them to a better room with a minimum of fuss. One of the best features of this hotel is the roof terrace where breakfast is taken There are panoramic views of the city. It also has a jaccuzi, but we were there in March and, although the weather was very nice, it was probably not quite warm enough for this.

For those of you who are looking for information from people of similar cultures, etc., I should mention that I am an American who is currently living and working in France. I travel regularly throughout the US and Europe. The Colonna Palace was fantastic! I was given the recommendation from an American friend who spent part of his honeymoon in Rome. I was planning a weekend getaway for Valentine's Day where I planned to propose to my girlfriend. The staff was great and everyone there spoke english as well as spanish, french, and italian. I had several special requests for flowers, champagne, restaurant reservations, and other activities and the staff took care of everything so our weekend was flawless. The location of the hotel could not be better. It is centrally located in the old city center which allows a short stroll to all of the major sights. The area is also very safe at all times which was very important for us. The local restaurants and venues are also very good. The in-house bar is small and quaint. The rooftop terrace was fantastic and I chose this private place, overlooking the city, to pop the question on Saturday night. This terrace alone is worth the price of admission. The rooms are typical for european hotels and have a quality ambiance to them.During our next visit to Rome, I would not even consider staying at another hotel. I found a fantastic rate (?110) at www.**************************

Wonderful choice in Rome! I had read about the poor matresses, but did not experience any problems and we stayed in two rooms (arrived early and couldn't get a room with a bathtub at first). Our children were in two more rooms and had no complaints. Rooms were very clean and quite comfortable. The staff was superb! Very friendly, very knowledgeable, and always accomodating. Continental breakfast was the usual...not great, but not bad either. The location can't be beat and I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. Got a great rate through reservationitaly.

We stayed at this hotel for the last two nights of our 3 week trip. I found the hotel to be of excellent standards. The roof top decking with jacuzzi and views of Vatican City, was a fantastic and unexpected surprise. Like most Italian hotels it is traditional in it's decor and the room size is fine. The service was simple, but we chatted with the late night bar manager and then enjoyed our cocktails on the roof top - the city lights were great. The location is within walking distance to all major tourist attractions.

I went to Rome in Nov 2002 and stayed at the Colonna Palace. It's situated in a quiet square opposite the Town Hall but only a short walk from a lot of the main attractions like the Pantheon, Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps and about 1/2 hour walk from the Vatican Pleasant staff who were very helpful and willing to suggest nearby restaurants and sights - they don't do an evening meal at the hotel so this was useful! Breakfast room on the rooftop of the hotel was amazing, early morning views of Rome right across to the Vatican.

I was in Rome June 2003 for the first time. This hotel was outstanding and in a wonderful location, close to all the major attractions. I could walk everywhere! I felt very safe being their alone and near the Italian Parliment. The staff was excellent and the rooftop cafe has a wonderful view of the sunsets and of course, Rome!

This hotel is near to everything you may want to see in historic Rome, and you can walk everywhere. Even the Vatican is no more than 15 - 20 minutes away. The hotel is situated close to the Parliament and the Foreign Office, and there are police guarding the area everywhere (so you feel pretty safe). The hotel is not cheap, but the people at the reception and elsewhere in the hotel are friendly and helpful. The rooms have good working aircondition (the temperature in Rome was well over 30 degrees C during our visit in june 2003 !) and good beds. Everything is nice and clean, and the breakfast at the roof terrace is nearly worth the extra price. When we left the hotel sent us to the airport in a 'limo' that was much cheaper than the taxi we arrived in. This was nearly too much, but we where very satisfied with our stay at Colonna Palace.

As has been described in many of the other reviews, you can't have a more centrally located hotel if you tried. Minutes from all the majors sights, we walked everywhere. The rooftop terrazzo was worth the price of admission on it's own. It offered you spectacular views of all of Rome, which, were even better at night and was totally under-utilized by the other hotel guests. After a long day of sight-seeing there was nothing more relaxing than sipping some wine, smoking a cigar and just enjoying the cool breeze on that rooftop. If you like sleeping with the windows open request a room on the side of the piazza facing the Parliment. It's much quieter than the street-side rooms. However, the street side rooms offer you floor to ceiling windows and shutters with small balconies which, while giving you a very European feel are very noisy. The hotel, while very clean was in need of repairs (our air-conditioner gave out one night and the lock to the door popped off in my hand) but I would still give this hotel a 4-star rating. The staff, while accomodating weren't overly friendly. However, I found that was the case with just about all the Italian citizens. I would recommend this hotel to anyone. My wife and I plan to go back to Rome within the next two years and we will definitely be staying here again.

Stayed in the Colonna Palace in early July '04. It has an excellent location (near the Pantheon) and the staff was very helpful and attentive. They have a safe behind the front desk for your valuables (previous poster thought they had an inside theft job of their room) but we felt secure locking our room with items "hidden" inside. Best part about this hotel, besides the location is the rooftop terrace! Great views of Rome and the included breakfast every morning was fantastic and served on the nice outdoor terrace. There is even a small pool (unheated hot tub in summer really) on the roof.
