Located on the outskirts of the pretty Gozitan village of Xaghra, on a high ridge with views over the fertile Imrik valley over to Victoria and down to the sea at Marsalforn, the Cornucopia Hotel has been attractively converted from a traditional farmhouse into a 48 room hotel.
With the bar and lounge area dating back over 300 years, the dcor throughout the hotel is traditionally Gozitan from the limestone walls to the arched restaurant with a relaxed and peaceful atmosphere throughout. The Cornucopia makes a special feature of its grounds. Two freshwater swimming pools, a whirlpool and a childrens' pool are set among gardens and terraces.

| LOCATION |
|
Ideally situated in Xaghra the Cornucopia Hotel is a mere ten minute drive to any locality in Gozo. Victoria is less than 4 km away.
Apart from being in itself a picturesque village, the village of Xaghra is rich in historical heritage and therefore has plenty to offer to its visitors. It is encircled by the beautiful bays of Ramla, Ghajn Barrani and Marsalforn. The center of the village is approximately 2 km away from the hotel. Near the church in the main square are two banks, a pharmacy, various supermarkets, a police station and various restaurants and bars.
Xaghra is one of the oldest villages in Gozo and proof of very early habitation has been found here. Here one can find the Neolithic temples of Ggantija, which are acknowledged to be the oldest free-standing structures in the world. At the edge of the village on the other side from the hotel one can find Calypso Cave, the home of the nymph Calypso, mentioned in Homer's Odyssey. Xerri's Grotto and Ninu's Cave are renowned for the fantastic shapes of their stalagmites and stalactites. The village also has an attractive windmill known as Ta' Kola windmill. It is the only windmill in Gozo that has its own original wooden cogwheel machinery in good functioning order. Today this is functioning as a museum. A curious museum that one should not miss when visiting Xaghra, is the "Pomskizillious" Museum of Toys, where a display of antique collectors' toys is exhibited.
Should you choose public transport, on arrival in Gozo you would need to take the bus to Victoria and from Victoria then take the bus to Xaghra (No. 64, 65). The bus will leave you near the main village square in Xaghra. From here proceed along Church street (opposite parish church to the right). At the cross road turn right into Bullara Street, then take the first turn left into Xerri's Grotto Street and again right into Gnien Imrik Street. The Hotel is situated on the right side of the street. |
