Following a particularly traumatic time in our lives, we needed tranquility and each other...the Cotswold House provided the first and never intruded into the second! Our suite was secluded large, comfortable, with superb furnishings and wonderful gadgets! The sound quality from the Bang & Olufsen cd/dvd/tv was outstanding (there was even a tv to watch as I relaxed in the bath!) and a shower just the right size for two! We indulged in champagne breakfasts, served with great courtesy and excellent dining in the restaurant. We had a private garden with a hot tub of our own, where we enjoyed the peace and watched the stars....Every attention to detail had been paid in the decor and fittings in the room, from beautiful local glassware to subtle lighting and every accessory imaginable. We could choose everything from our own bed linen to the contents of our mini bar...but my highest accolade must be paid to the staff...who were there to chat if required or who blended subtly into the background to allow moments of intimacy...our very grateful thanks to Julian, Murray and Richard, who made this a very special end to a very special chapter in our lives..... |

We love the Cotswold House and have stayed there several times, most recently during the renovations. Although it was a bit chaotic during the day, with the inevitable dust and noise, Christa (the owner) made sure, as she always does, that our stay was perfect.
We were among the first guests to enjoy the new bar and dining room, which are gorgeous. But the food is what really counts, and in this case, it is truly some of the best around. The hotel's young chef has won a major award, and we have no doubt that he's on his way to a Michelin star. Even the informal restaurant, Hicks' Brasserie, is excellent (and very reasonably priced).
As for the rooms, the garden cottages are well worth the extra cost - they are huge and luxurious, with fabulous bathrooms that you wish you could take home with you!
If you're looking for a chintz-filled country house hotel on a big estate, Cotswold House isn't for you. It is a townhouse hotel with an elegant contemporary style. But the owners have created a real gem where the service is exceptional, and returning guests are welcomed back as old friends. |
