My boyfriend and I searched endlessly for a moderately priced hotel within easy walking distance of the Vatican in Rome. The Diplomatic Hotel was very clean with adequate space and newly renovated gorgeous bathrooms. The staff was extremely courteous and helpful. The breakfast provided in the morning was delicious and provided a good start to long days of walking and sightseeing. I would recommend this hotel to anyone planning a visit to Rome.

My husband and I have lived many places and are careful about locations. We loved the location of this hotel. It was an easy walk to everything! It was very clean and we asked for and received a quiet room in the back. The room by European standards was large and the bathroom all marble. It was an excellent price given the location and cleanliness and quiet of the hotel. The staff was fabulous. We would stay there again for sure. This was so nice we just got back yesterday and I am writing this well deserved excellent review today!

We just returned from our vacation to Rome where we stayed at the Hotel Diplomatic. We found the hotel to be exactly what we needed. The room was small but very clean. The bathroom was a decent size and also very clean; all the fixtures appeared to be brand new. The staff was extremely knowledgable, helpful and polite. The location was perfect for us. The hotel is just slightly removed from the busy tourist areas so therefore a quiet place to relax and sleep but at the same time easily accessible to everything. The Spanish Steps are just about a fifteen minute walk away as is the Vatican. Other sights can be easily accessed by the buses, many of which stop right in front of the hotel or in the nearby piazza. A weekly bus pass that cost 16 euro per person got us everywhere we wanted to go. The breakfast was sufficient and the cappacino was delicious. There is one computer for the hotel guests to use and internet access is free. At the corner on the end of the street where the hotel is is a wonderful coffee bar where everything was very reasonable priced and with wonderful gelato and pasteries. We also discovered a few great restaurants within walking distance of the hotel. I would highly recommend the Hotel Diplomatic to any of my friends or family who are planning a trip to Rome.

I stayed here for four nights in mid March. The rooms are reasonably spacious by Rome standards, clean and fairly quiet - although if you are at the front of the hotel the traffic noise may force you to keep the window shut. The three great advantages that the hotel has are, firstly the staff (all seemed both friendly and efficient), the location (the surrounding area is pleasant enough (much nicer than the Termini area anyway), it is 12 minutes walk to the Vatican Museums or St Peters, 15 to the Pantheon, Piazza Navona & Spanish Steps & a bus stop is 15 yards away for the Colosseum & Termini areas among others) and the price (the winter rate of 90 euros per night for a treble room in this location is great value). Local restaurants? 2 restaurants 3 trattorias and a couple of sandwich bars within 3 minutes walk. Tried two of the trattorias and the food was fine in both. Problems? a couple. The noise from the main road I mentioned earlier. The only other problem was that after the first night, no replacement soap or shampoo was provided by the maid. Overall, a very fine 3 star hotel!

Close to Vatican City, a sprawling river and all the Rome
superhighlights, The Diplomatic was the perfect place to set up camp
for a short stay.
The breakfast was top notch, staff totally professional.
Not much in the way of in house food services otherwise, but plenty of establishments only steps away.
Good value.

LOCATION and REALLY nice clean hotel, plus really affordable- about 100 Euros per night. This comfortable quiet hotel is a 10 minute walk to Vatican City and a walk right over the river is 15 minutes (i timed it) to the Spanish Steps. The nearest metro station is "Spagna" right next to the spanish steps, however in the 5 days that we were there, we only used the metro to get to TERMINI Station to take us Venice and the Airport. Other than that, we walked all the time, which is probably the best way to really see the city- above ground. We stayed in Rome at the Diplomatic Hotel from Nov. 29-Dec. 1, 2003. We had a wonderful stay.
The staff was really nice and helpful, the buffet continental breakfast was more than adequate, and the room and bathroom were extremely clean.
The hotel is brand new inside as it was recently renovated. I was truly delighted and would definitely stay there again, the next time that I am in Rome.

I highly recommend this hotel. We got to Rome and the hotel we thought we had reserved would not uphold the reservation. We called Diplomatic and they not only got us a room - but said they would honor the price of the other hotel! The staff was extremely friendly, helpful and spoke perfect English. The rooms were spacious and lovely. The bathrooms and marble countertops and full sized hair dryers. And breakfast is served outside on the patio. It was very close to the Vatican and only a 10 minute walk to the Spanish Steps - from there you can catch the metro around the city. A great place to stay I would recomend it to anyone.

My husband and I stayed at this great hotel for 3 nights from 13-16 April 2004 . The location was perfect - 10 minute walk from the Vatican, 10 minute walk to the Spanish Steps, 5 minutes from Castel d'angelo etc. The staff were so friendly and could not do enough to help. Having read previous reviews that stated the front rooms were noisy due to traffic, on check-in I asked for a room at the back and our room was changed to accommodate this. Whilst it meant we had no view, the room was so quiet we could sleep with the window open without hearing a sound. There was also no noise from other rooms so obviously it had good soundproofing. I am astounded at the last persons review as we found the room and bathroom spotlessly clean and very comfortable as well as all the public areas of the hotel. Brekfast was ok, the usual continental fayre but to be honest I've never stayed anywhere in Italy where the breakfast is outstanding. However, the cappucino was top notch. Even on our departure date the staff were superb - as we had an evening flight, we were told to leave our packed bags in the room and they would be bought down for us when we needed them! I would thoroughly recommend this hotel and would absolutely return on our next trip to Rome.
