great location but hotel does not correspond to the category
Lobby of the hotel wholesale work when we arrived, our room was directly above the floor, so extremely noisy. We had to negotiate a demmenagement to another room (thankfully quiet). The location of the hotel is ideal for cons this hotel is in a small room three-star and common correspond to two stars. We have never been able to serve drinks on the terrace with a magnificent view of the Giralda.

Dona Maria
Ideal location, couldn't be more central. Comfortable, stylish. Friendly staff. Good breakfast. Roof top terrace an added bonus - but don't order coffee from the bar - 9Euros for 2 cups. Would recommend this hotel and stay there again.

The Doña María Hotel (4Star?)
The Doña María Hotel (4Star?)
Seville, Spain
This October (2008) I spent three days at the Doña María Hotel in Seville, Spain. I would not recommend it.
I made a reservation at the Doña María for three reasons: it described itself as well located within the historic area of Seville, as a “museum hotel” and as providing “maximum comfort”. Yet, I am afraid the hotel fails to live up to the expectations created. On the positive side, it ought to be said that its location next to the Cathedral is truly superb. Also, the hotel boasts some antiques, some period pieces and many reproductions, all located, of course, in its public rooms.
Unfortunately, that is the sum of the positive comments that can be made about this pretentious but uncomfortable, and supposedly 4Star, establishment. The furniture of the bedroom I stayed in consisted of two single beds, a miniature writing desk, one chair, one upholstered chair, and two fancy shelves masquerading as nightstands. Two small windows, heavily curtained, required the use of electricity even in broad daylight. The floor was covered by a dark, or dirty, grey Berber wall-to-wall carpet appropriate perhaps for a shop floor but definitely not for a 4Star hotel. The upholstered chair had known better days, so that it was good enough for sinking in rather than sitting on. The beds were framed overhead by a miniature damask baldachin, in an attempt to give character to the room. It did not succeed. The contrast between the damask overhead and the industrial state carpet made the entire set up seem somewhat pathetic. The beds had ancient noisy metal bedsprings that reacted to your every move, and a sagging mattress. I had not slept in a “musical” bed such as these since my student residence days in the 1960s. The effect of the beds’ dreadful condition was that one had the impression of lying on a derelict hammock.
The bathroom is deserving of some comments as well. It had literally no place to leave the usual shaving, dental hygiene and other items. True, it had two small glass shelves attached to a wall. Unfortunately, both had been badly installed and maintained, and hung at a precarious angle from the wall, making it problematic to use them as a rest place for anything deserving to be kept in one piece. The bathtub was a mess. It was chipped in several places, so that you could see the black metal under the enamel. In several other places, an attempt had been made to hide further damage. Yet, the job had been so poorly done that the result was a discoloration and roughness of these spots; it made it impossible to determine whether the tub had been cleaned thoroughly, as it should. The joint between the tub and the wall confirmed the worst expectations, for it showed abundant signs of mildew. If you wanted to take a shower, given that the tub was so uninviting, you had to do so with a telephone type shower, as there was no other available. In order to do so you had to close a flimsy plastic curtain that hung from a metal railing above the tub. Just to make sure that the curtain stayed in its proper place, someone, guest or chambermaid, had had the idea –get this!- of wrapping two bits of adhesive tape around the metal railing.
The hotel was said to be air conditioned, a feature much to be appreciated in a place like Seville, even during the month of October. The first night of my stay, I heard the air conditioner’s asthmatic attempt to circulate the air in my room, though it did not succeed in lowering its temperature. The next night, I made inquiries and was told the classic excuse, that the system was being serviced; so, no air conditioning for the duration.
I am afraid the management of the Doña María has a peculiar idea of what the hotel business is about. It is nice to walk into an establishment that has pleasant, well appointed public areas. Yet, where a hotel has truly to show its mettle is in the comfort, cleanliness and convenience of its guestrooms. In that respect, the Doña María fails miserably. The next time I am in Seville I will not stay at the Doña María. Rather, I will choose a place that takes the needs of its guests seriously. Anyone who enjoys viewing a few period pieces will do a lot better visiting the local museum.
