| LOCATION |
|
Hotel Edda Isafjordur is located in Isafjordur, Europe's West-End. Isafjordur and its surrounding towns have from the settlers of the Viking period depended on the sea. The whole area is a constant reminder of the maritime life both in past as well as present.
An boat tour to island Vigur - The tour starts with a pickup at the airport or your accommodation. Stops are being made at points of interest e.g. the Maritime museum in Isafjordur and a reconstructed sailors hut, Osvor in Bolungarvik. Afterwards passengers have two hours for lunch. An afternoon boat tour to the bird island Vigur. Upon arrival you go for a walk around the island that is basically a large home to thousands of puffins, eider ducks, arctic terns, black guillemot and several other types of birds that can easily be spotted there. After the walk refreshments are served at the “House of Victoria”. On the way back to the boat a postcard can be sent from the smallest post office in Europe.
Nothing compares to the beauty of Hornvik in Hornstrandir nature reserve. Surrounding Hornvik are two of three largest bird cliffs in Iceland. Because of its remoteness, it has been difficult to take a day trip, but this now trip makes it possible.
The boat takes passengers to Hornvik and then they walk with a guide up to the cliff Hornbjarg. Thousands of birds can be seen and arctic foxes will hopefully be nearby. The tour takes about 12 hours, there of 6 hours walking. Passengers should bring good shoes and clothing, picnic and of course the camera. |
