Fort William is a majestic town from Scotland, overcome in size only by Inverness. It is situated in the highlands of Scotland and is bordered by Glen Coe to the South, Glenfinnan to the West, and Aonach Mor to the North. Fort William is also very close to Ben Nevis, which makes it a great starting point for hillwalking. The city is also near one of Scotland’s longest sea lochs (Loch Linne). As with the rest of Scotland, weather here is not very warm – not even in summer. The average high temperature during the summer season I 17-18 degrees Celsius, while the average low temperature of winter is minus 1 to 2 degrees Celsius. So whether you are visiting Fort William in summer or winter, make sure to pack some warm clothes – you will be glad you did.
Otel hopes you’ll enjoy wonderful weather while staying at Fort William hotels!
Back in the old days the area was known under the name of Lochaber, and here laid the country of clan Cameron. The town Fort William developed as a settlement next to a fort constructed by Oliver Cromwell. The city was named after William of Orange, but in time it was known as Gordonsburgh and Duncansburgh before returning to the initial name of Fort William.
Events, Landmarks, Activities
The greatest asset of the city is its geographical location, which provides its tourists with a lot of outdoor activities. On the outskirts of the town there is a large downhill mountain which is perfect for mountain biking. Another popular activity is hill-hiking and climbing. You can visit the Inverlochy Castle, the Ben Nevis distillery and the West Highland Museum. But the main attractions still remain the beauties of the region’s natural landscape: Ben Nevis mountain, Aonach Mor, the Steall Waterfall, the Tower Ridge, Glen Roy, Carn Mor Dearg, Aonach Beag, Stob Ban and many others.
You can see these landmarks by booking Fort William hotel deals.
