Brief History

Galway used to be a small fishing village situated on the opening of a river and protected by a fort. The King of Connacht Turlough O' Connor built a fort on the mouth of River Corrib which became part of the Annals of the Four Masters. Galway was ruled by more than 14 families during the medieval period where it got its nickname “The City of the Tribes”.
