Brief History
The first settlers in Grand Canyon were the Ancient Pueblo People, but the area was inhabited by different cultures including the Cohonina, Sinagua and Havasupai. The first Europeans to arrive in the Grand Canyon were the Spaniards led by Francisco Vasquez de Coronado who landed in the area in 1540.
Events, Landmarks, Activities
Witness the perfect combination of picturesque scenery and relaxing music during the Grand Canyon Music Festival which is held from late August to early September. This annual event started in the 80s and showcases mostly chamber music at the spectacular Shrine of Ages at the Grand Canyon Village. There are lots of great places to explore at the Grand Canyon such as the South Rim where you can find the Grand Canyon Village, Desert View and Hermits Rest. The North Rim, on the other hand, features the Cape Royal, Point Imperial and Angel Point.
Transportation
The only way to reach several trail-heads and viewpoints is to ride the park shuttle service. There are three interlocking routes to choose from including one that travels to South Rim. The shuttle service is free and operates from sunrise to sunset.
