Visit the bay of Diego and the Sugar Loaf, the French and British cemeteries, the Bazary Kely (the market), the churches, the Hôpital Be, the Foch Square, the Marina Hotel, the Jacob Mosque, the Joffre square from which you can get a nice view of Cap Diego (the old town of Diego) and the harbour.
Ankarana National Park - Eastern Tsingy: The Ankarana is a 35 km long karstic massif made of Tsingy. Canyons, forests, caves and underground rivers crisscross this national park which is also the home of an endemic flora and fauna. On the way there, make stops along the famous RN6 to better appreciate the sceneries before diving into the heart of the Antakarana culture.

Amber Mountain: Created in 1958, the national park of the Amber Mountain is located in a volcanic area. It is the home of a fantastic rainforest, preserved from any human influence and where a lush and complex flora and fauna develop. Discover the many lakes and waterfalls. Then follow the ‘1000-trees path’ and meet the smallest chameleon of the world (the Brokesia Minima Tuberculata), and the different species of lemurs.
The Red Tsingy: Not far from the Analamera reserve, the red Tsingy are a rock formation due to the erosion by the rain and the wind of a laterite soil. The result is a surprising maze of red rocks unique in Madagascar. Ephemeral, they form and disappear in a relatively short geological time.

The Sacred Lake of Antagnavo: The village of Anivorano is reknown for its legendary lake. The story goes that a traveller, tired after his journey, asked for water. The villagers refused to give him any and he went his way leaving a curse on the village. The water of the lake rose and drowned the village and the population was changed into crocodiles.
Today, the crocodiles (who still wear the silver bracelets of the ancestors) are seen as sacred ancestors and offerings are made to ask for their benediction, for prosperity and descendants.
The Emerald Sea: On your way along the coast to the fishing village of Ramena, take a look at the Sugar Loaf, the baobabs (endemic to the region), and the massif of the French Mountain. At your arrival in Ramena, get on board and sail to the Emerald lagoon, located right outside the Bay of Diego. Enjoy the shallow turquoise water and snorkle in a natural aquarium-like lagoon where fishes of all shapes and sizes play in the colorful corals.
Three Bays: Discover the wonders of the region sprinkled along the coast road: the Sugar Loaf, the endemic baobabs and the massif of the French Mountain, and even the oldest baobab of the region.
Each more beautiful than the next, these quiet bays of white sand unwind along a turquoise sea rich in fishes and corals. Take a walk along the Sakalava Bay (great spot for windsurfers, kite-surfers and fun-boarders), the inaccessible Baie des Pigeons, and dive in the refreshing Baie des Dune. |
