A UNESCO World Heritage Site in the magnificent fjords of Norway offering a picturesque and breathtaking residence nestled in the beautiful Gudvangen valley.
1000 years ago this was a Viking centre rich in folklore, now an innovative building complex brings together 11th century Viking traditions, and the most modern Norwegian design concepts. The complex is surrounded by towering mountains with innumerable waterfalls, and bordered by a crystal-clear river.
A number of unique features exemplify local craftsmanship such as detailed Viking motif wood carvings, beautiful piped music into the room and a large skylight which gave a beautiful view of Kjelsfossen and the surrounding towering mountains.
The architecture combines old Norwegian building tradition with modern comfort and all of the furniture is handmade inspired by the Viking era and completely designed and constructed by local artists; from the bedroom furniture to the standing fireplace and dramatic wrought-iron stairway in the lodge. |

The Gudvangen Fjordtell Hotel is the ideal place to begin a tour of the Sogn area’s many attractions. It is the starting point for ferries that provide fjord tours as well as transportation to the places of interest for which Sogn is famous. You might wish to take the ferry up the Nærøyfjord, to Aurland and Flåm. Once in Flåm, you can take the Flåmline train ( one of the world’s most special railroads). This journey along with the Nærøyfjord ferrytrip and, visit to Gudvangen, completes the Norway-in-a-Nutshell tour.
Alternately, you can take a ferry up the Nærøyfjord to Manhillar ( Kaupanger/ Sogndal). There you can visit the Heiberg collection - an outdoor folk park with old farms and houses and animals.
Yet another ferry destination is Lærdal, with very charming old buildings the Salmoncenter.
A short drive from Lærdal you also find the beautiful Borgund stave church. In Vik you can visit Hopperstad stave church. |
