good place
nice hotel to stay in a guite neirbahood, easy access to tram line, ever though I am dissapointed about the housekeeping service because was not service for 3stars hotel, and about the internet services you can not charge your customers with 10 euro an hour on 2009 when the other places give the acces free

Avoid
In all of my extensive travelling through all of Europe, this has to be the second worst Hotel i have stayed at. Only the great breakfast saved it from the wooden spoon award. The pictures you see on the web page are not necessarily what you get. Having booked months in advance (and prepaid) for a double room, I was looking forward to this being a highlight of our European tour. What we got was two single beds (attached to the walls either side of a very small room. Atop of which were mattresses even smaller than the base and an ensuite so small, you had to sit sideways on the toilet. The building itself looked like the staff quarters and had no lift (unlike what was stated in their advertising). The plumbing leaked, soaking the carpet and internet access was provided at a considerable cost. The staff was both rude and very unhelpful.
If you still wish to stay there, then get a guarantee to have provided what they say they have. It is a long way from being a three star hotel. There are much better deals in Amsterdam.

Cheap convenient base to explore Amsterdam
My friend and I have just come back from a weekend in the Hem hotel Amsterdam. Overall, the hotel was absolutely fine. We found it very clean and basic and location is very convenient for exploring Amsterdam. Our rooms were rather small but comfy to crash after a long day of sightseeing. Due to its location, the night sleep is really a treat. The breakfast was excellent, plentiful to start the day.
Overall, if you want a cheap base for going out and exploring the city, Hem hotel Amsterdam is one of the best choices.

Cheap standard hotel with nice and safe location
My Husband and I stayed at Hem Hotel Amsterdam hotel for five days. The staff at the front desk was very nice and spoke very good English. We got to the hotel very early because of our flight, and they allowed us to check in right away. Our room an en suite bathroom were large than you would expect from European standards. Besides it was spotless and cleaned on daily basis.
The location of the hotel was very convenient for us. It was a short walk to Vondel Park, which is about a 20 min walk to the center of the city, right at Van Gogh etc. You can also easily take the tram. Moreover, the hotel is away from the hustle and bustle and it was much cheaper! Plus there is a little shopping area near by. Overall, we found Hem Hotel Amsterdam as a very standard hotel with a nice and safe location.

Party hotel
The only thing that we liked about the HEM Hotel was the room. It was spacious and well kept, but at 95 Euros was not worth it. The location was about 20-25 minutes (by tram) from the train station. The receptionist rushed through our introduction and seemed like he hated his job. The elevator was a mess and there were partiers next door that were very audible even at 1:00 am. We would not book a room here again.
