Hotel Gaudí is a three-star hotel built on the basis of a historical building in 1964 and fully restored between 1986 and 1992 for the Barcelona Olympic Games. Now it is once again being renovated, with the focus this time being on reflecting modernista furniture and emphasising the original architecture of the building in which the hotel is sited. The hotel currently offers 33 renovated bedrooms and will continue to add more a rate of 15 per year until the renovations are completed.
This hotel is set opposite the Palau Güell, designed by Antoni Gaudí, a stone’s throw from Barcelona’s famous Ramblas, with its newspaper and magazine kiosks, its birds and fish and its flower and plant stands. Also on the same street are the Liceu opera house, the Palau de la Virreina with its exhibitions, the Palau Moja, the Wax Museum and the Santa Mónica Art Centre.
The historical part of Hotel Gaudí has been completely renovated, faithfully restoring its original architectural elements, and thus a four-yoked vault has been refurbished, as has the stone arch that supports the old building over which the current walls were raised. From this period, the end of the nineteenth century, the polychrome barrel vaulting which graced the building’s main entrance has been revealed and restored. Furthermore, the hall has been given a modernista air, as is only fitting given the hotel’s name, and in it a trencadís (broken tile pattern) fountain in the style of the genius Gaudí has been installed, taking advantage of the excess tile remains from the works. |

Been back a week, after an excellent short break (4 nights) 28 March - 1 April 2004 to Barcelona. The Gaudi is a comfortable, clean and friendly hotel, which for us was superbly situated towards the seafront end of the Las Ramblas, on the Nou De Las Ramblas. O...

The hotel is in a great location, the staff are very friendly and helpful - told us of a great restaurant to visit. There was hardly any noise - O.K. the rooms are small but surely you don't visit Barcelona to sit in a hotel room! Would happily go back.

A group of us ( 7 ) went to Barcelona for a cultural weekend, and decided to stay at the Gaudi Hotel. We had 4 rooms ( 3 twins and a single ) and all were clean, warm, quiet (for Spain), and large enough. The hotel is in a fantastic location, just off the Rambl...
