Check your room first
I booked a Ramblas de Luxe room and when I got there they gave us the smallest room which was certainly not the room we expected from their advertisements and which had noting in common with luxury. After some protest we got a room we have made a reservation for. Whitout telephone, iron, chairs and table. We didn't want to protest again so we just took it and paid the full price Euro 164 per night. The dining and breakfast room is in renovation, so closed. The quality of service depends who is serving there. For less money you can find the same service in the neighbourhood. Plenty of hotels/hostals/pensions there.

I stayed at the Oriente for 3 nights in December 2002 with two young grandaughters.(6 and 11). I found the staff very helpful and friendly and they spoke good english. The girls loved the buffet breakfast and people watching on the balcony, which although small was a good vantage point for the life on the Ramblas. It was a pleasant stroll to the harbour one way and to the shops in Catalunya square the other way and also very handy for La Boqueria, where the fruit is fabulously cheap!!
The room we were allocated was extremely large and very clean. Plenty of space for them to mess about in!!!! For the price, location, cleanliness and staff you cant beat it. Obviously you get more facilities and more modern rooms if you want to pay more but the Oriente has everything you need and leaves more cash for spending!!!!!
Barcelona is a great city. I will be back!!!!!!!!

Stayed here one week. They asked if we want a room with a view to Rambla (a little bit more noisy) or not (not so noisy). We took a room with a view to Rambla and oh my: a bic balcony and an excellent room - is this a dream?
The bathroom was not so special, water coming a little bit slowly. Breakfast ok. Hospitality fine. We enjoyed our week!
And if you don't mind a little street sounds in the night, ask for a room with Rambla-view. It's something fantastic!
