We were placed in this hotel due to a mistake at the Astoria (a more modest - and a much more old-world - hotel), so we paid a very low rate for this hotel. We tend to like budget-to-moderate hotels with local charm, so we weren't the perfect people to stay at the I/C ... but enjoyed staying there anyway. The workout room is great (looks out over the Danube), the location is perfect - right near a bridge to the old town and at the beginning of the new town, so very convenient - and the staff is very helpful. We liked our room as well. Nothing not to like!
Our only quibble was that because the I/C is among lots of business hotels, when my husband went out to take a walk one evening he was hit on by woman after woman (for money, presumably), which was kinda creepy. That's not the I/C's fault or doing, though (of course), but worthy of mention.

Stayed at Intercontinental Budapest April 29 - May 2, 2004. Pay the extra to get room facing the Danube. Great location for walking to Buda and Pest sides of the river. Rooms are comfortable but not special except for the views. This is an Americanized hotel. Would definitely stay there again.

We stayed at the InterContinental Budapest in late May 2004 and had a castle view room. The view was so wonderful that we did not want to close the curtains at night. The room was comfortable but not really special. We did not have any problem with noise from the Spoon restaurant that the previous poster mentioned. We saw the restaurant when we walked down to get the evening boat cruise but did not hear any noise. The breakfast was included in our rate. The choices were varied and everything seemed very fresh. The staff forgot about the wine and chocolates that were supposed to be included with our package even though we called to ask about it we never received it. I was happy that we stayed on the Pest side with the view of Buda. It seemed nicer than the reverse and I was happy to give up the additional luxury of the Meridien or the Kempinski to get the view.
