My wife and I ended our Italy trip by visiting Salerno and the Amalfi Coast (July 21-24, 2004).
What a lovely stay we had. You MUST rent a car otherwise you?€™ll be stranded. We had a lovely Fiat PUnto. We stayed at the Jolly HOtel Salerno. Excellent location and excellent service. Definetely I recommend this place. I had a fabulous dive off Praiano Beach with the owner of La Boa Dive Center (located at the Beach)- see my Praiano review on this dive. You must drive up and down the Amalfi Coastal Highway and see in the sights from Salerno to Positano. What a view - BREATHTAKING! The towns on the way - mairori, Minori, Ravello, etc. - must be seen. Spend time in Salerno and its environs too (Paestum- 30 minutes by car), etc. From Salerno we planned day trips to Mt. Vesuvius and Pompeii (but don?€™t do both in one day -it?€™s too hot). You need to spend time in Positano too (something we could not do due to the time frame). I think a full 4-5 days on the Amalfi Coast is fine. But try to base yourself in Salerno, as we did, as the highway is easier to get from there and I feel it was very central. In Salerno, walk down the promenade in the evenings to catch a glimpse of Salerno life. Great time.
Finally, we drove from Salerno to Naples airport to get our flight to London and home.
WHAT A LOVELY VACATION - SOMETHING WE WILL TRULY REMEMBER FOR YEARS TO COME. |
