Location, Climate

Kissimmee is the preferred destination of many families traveling to Orlando because of its close proximity to the world-famous Disney World, its major league clubs and warm weather. It is located in the Osceola County in Central Florida. Kissimmee is a sunny city and most tourists book cheap hotels during springtime when the climate is mild. Avoid booking a cheap hotel between August and October which is the hurricane season.

Brief History

Kissimmee was discovered during the mid-19th century and was originally called Allendale. Its name was changed to Kissimmee when it was officially established as a city in 1883. Kissimmee started to flourish when Hamilton Disston decided to build drainage in the area and made him one of the biggest landowner in the country.

Events, Landmarks, Activities

There is a wide variety of events held in Kissimmee annually, but the most popular music festivals are the Bluegrass Festival in March and the JazzFest Kissimmee Festival in April. If Orlando has Disney World, Universal Studios and SeaWorld, then Kissimmee also have its own list of theme parks that would surely bring fun to the whole family including Water Mania and Fun 'N' Wheels Fun Park. If those are not enough for you, then you should definitely check out Gatorland, Reptile World Serpentarium, and World of Orchids and try out the Boggy Creek Airboat Rides.

Transportation

Most people that travel to Kissimmee have their own car. If you don't have one, you can easily rent a car to explore the city. Public buses are accessible and cheap which makes it the choice of budget-conscious travelers.
