Brief History
Archaeological remains have been found in the mountains surrounding Marbella which proved human existence in the city during the Neolithic and Paleolithic periods. Studies showed that the first settlers of Marbella were the Phoenicians who arrived in the city during the 7th century BC.
Events, Landmarks, Activities
One of the biggest events in Marbella is the San Bernabe Festival which is celebrated in honor of their patron saint and held every month of June. This week-long festival features various performances and activities during the Fair Day at the Avenida del Doctor Maiz Vinals and Fair Night held at the Arroyo Primero. The best place to start sightseeing is at the Old Town where you find the Orange Square. This magnificent square houses the Marbella Town Hall, statue of King Juan Carlos I and numerous dining and shopping venues.
Transportation
Taxis are convenient, but make sure to haggle with the rates first. Buses are cheaper and it has seven routes that travel day and night. Rent a car for long-distance travels such as Costa del Sol. A more fun but expensive way of traveling is by riding the horse-drawn carriages or the mini cruise “Victoria”.
