We stayed at Marcella Royal Easter week. Rome is Eternal and the weather was cold, wet, overcast, and rainy for nearly the entire week. However, the Marcella and staff were superb. I do not have one negative remark. We were worried that all restaurants would be closed Pasqua and Pasquetta. The helpful staff had a trattoria for every night. Pietro was charming and energetic. The entire staff was courteous. Morning breakfast was more than adequate. Marcella Royal is situated in a relatively quiet neighborhood but within a quick walk to Via Veneto and beyond. I would stay there again in a heartbeat. PR. Va.Beach

We had a great time at the Hotel Marcella Royal, really nice rooms, small by standards in other countries very friendly staff ,lovely breakfast and very safe for our party consisting of 2 older ladies and 2 younger ladies. The staff recommended lovely restaurants, booking ahead & much cheaper than the restaurants round the main tourists attractions. The food was also far superior as was the wine. A few words of advice. Do not book the Chia Roma Bus tours, we booked a day in advance in person & the bus did not turn, we then had to argue for an hour to get our money back as the girl said as we had booked the day before we were not entitled to our money We wasted 2hours over this & as a result took the metro to the Colessum, being pick pocketed on route, beware of well dressed men in suits offering to show the way & escorting us on to the Metro as his accomoplise blocked one of our party getting onto the Metro and opened her bag taking the purse. A very sleek operation However a great time had by all, remember to check the times of opening for the Sistine Chapel, limited hours & mass is held in St peter,s every day at 5pm ,confession 5-7pm if so inclined . Inspite of being pickpocketed we had a great time .

I stayed at this hotel with my cousin a week in mid-March and I have to say it was excellent. The rooms were nice and clean, and the hotel staff was courteous and helpful. There was even a computer on our floor for guest use. The breakfast was nice and satisfying, with cereal, pasteries, ham, eggs, yogurt, milk, orange juice, and more. The hotel is in a good location, near the baths of Diocletian and close to metro and bus stops, yet still in a quiet area. The only thing I didn't like is that the bar on the rooftop wasn't open the evenings I was there, even though the weather was great. Otherwise, I can certainly recommend this hotel.

Stayed at the Marcella for a week last June. The staff was wonderful!
Evenings spent listening to the piano and drinking in the sights of the city from the rooftop. Room was large with lovely decor. We had a triple, so I can't speak for standard rooms. Hotel is a little off tourist beat. However, there is a wonderful little restaurant a few blocks down and several nearby. The bus access is also convenient from here. Ask the hotel staff and they will direct you. I was there with my daughters and felt completely safe in this neighborhood. We walked every evening. I wouldn't stay anywhere else in Rome. By the way, air-conditioning is superb.

We stayed for 4 nights in room 530 starting November 1, 2003. The room was wonderful with a sitting room, bedroom and large, modern bathroom.
Everyone was courteous and very helpful. Breakfast buffet was complete and tasty and the large, flower filled rooftop patio was beautiful. It was a little off the beaten path, but we did not find it a problem.
Would definitely stay there again. PG

My husband and I were guest at the Marcella from Sept. 22 - Sept. 29, 2003. The hotel was just what we hoped for - old world charm in a quiet hotel with an elegant lobby, large room - (we were in 618) friendly and helpful staff, and close enough to walk to the various attractions. The daily breakfast buffet was wonderful and we enjoyed the view from their rooftop both at breakfast time and in the evenings. In the evenings a keyboard player was there and that just added to the atmosphere. Great location in a residential area...not the hustle and bustle of the more tourist oriented hotels.

We had originally booked to stay at the nearby Hotel Gambrinus for the period 22- 25 August but owing to confusion concerning our reservation - there was "no room at the inn" - we were transferred to the Royal Marcella - and what a pleasant surprise! Excellent in every respect: quality and standard of hotel was exceptional; cleanliness of rooms and hotel in general; great rooftop terrace and live music; first class buffet breakfast; and excellent all round service from the staff. We would definitely go back to this hotel.

The Royal Marcella was one of the best hotels that we stayed at on our trip. The staff was friendly and willing to help you in any way. The rooms were spacious and comfortable. The bathroom was huge. The best part was that everynight at 9:00pm on the roof-top terrace there was live music. It was so relaxing to end the night looking over Rome, having a drink, and listening to the piano. When I go back, I could only stay at this hotel. I adored everything about it.

We spent five nights here, had a lovely time, nice breakfast, scenic roof garden with music, drinks and sunsets. We asked for and received an upgrade to a junior suite. The front desk people, especially Michele, were helpful and kind. Whenever there was a minor problem, it was resolved immediately. AC was good and cold, a relief from truly hot days. Free internet access. Close enough to all the main sights, but in a quieter section. We would definitely return.

We added 1 day on to the end of our trip to "do" Rome. The Marcella was PERFECT for us, within short taxi's to everything, near train station but in great area. They were very warm and charming at the front desk. The rooftop lounge was perfect for a casual dinner after our long day. Drinks and live music just made our last evening special. HIGHLY recommend - great value.
