Marrakech or as it is also known, “Ochre City” is one of the most important cities in Morocco. It is situated on the base of the High Atlas in the Marrakech-Tensift-Al Haouz region. Marrakech experiences many sunny days having a semi-arid climate. If you dislike the hot weather, avoid visiting Marrkech between July and September when the temperatures are at their highest. Book your cheap Marrakech hotel online and take advantage of some great savings. Being one of luxury hotels in Marrakech, the Sofitel Marrakech Lounge and Spa Hotel will not disappoint. Brief History

The name Marrakech originates from the Berber words “mur” (n) “akush” which means “Land of God”. Abu Bakr ibn Umar, who conquered Aghmat, decided to build his court in a different place to Aghmat and he found the perfect area near Tensift River (now known as Marrkech) because it was a neutral territory.

Events, Landmarks, Activities

After the harvest in October, the locals celebrate the annual Date Festival held in Efroud which is known for its production of date palms. This huge event features processions, folk dance, music, traditional cuisine and dishes with fresh dates. The busiest area in Marrakech is the Djemaa El-Fna which is a huge square that is filled with stalls, snake charmers and monkey trainers during day time while the evening gets alive with musicians, dancers and other unique performances. Must-see attractions in Marrakech include the Koutoubia Mosque, Saadian Tombs, Majorelle Gardens, Dar Si Said Museum, El Bahia Palace and the El Badi Palace. You can see these landmarks by booking Marrakech hotel deals. Also pay a visit to a closest coastal city Essaouira for sun, beach and history.

It is easy to explore the medina on foot while other areas can be easily reached by bus. A more fun way of getting around Marrkech is by riding the open-topped bus or the “caleche” (horse-drawn carriage). You can find cheap hotels in Marrakech via
