The name Mecenate has in time become a synonym of 'talent scout' and patron of the artists. The Hotel was named after him because it was right here on the Esquiline Hill that Mecenate lived, surrounded by his poet, writer, mime, actor and musician friends.
The Mecenate Palace Hotel comprises two adjacent buildings: the one by Rinaldi overlooking Piazza Santa Maria Maggiore dates from 1887; the other on via Carlo Alberto was built a few years later. Renovation work was carefully planned to restore the building's facades and the romantic interiors to their original splendour. This hotel was one of the best we stayed at in Italy. The staff was friendly and helpful. The room was comfortable and a decent size. The hotel's location is close to the city's major sights and a short walk from the Termini train station.
