The Melia Granada is a smart modern hotel, centrally located. It's very handy for the shops, and within walking distance of the Alhambra and Albaicin. My room was large, comfortable, modern and spotlessly clean.
A nice touch was the welcome message on the TV when I first went in.
The best thing about the hotel though is the amazing breakfast buffet.
I'v never seen so much choice - fruits, cereals, pastries, hot dishes, etc, etc, and eggs cooked to order by a friendly chef. Good value for money too - I'd definitely stay there again.

We have stayed at the Melia at least four times. Great location with easy walking everywhere in town. Close to the tombs of Ferdinand and Isabella, wonderful city centre plaza and restaurants. No Americans, little English, very professional and great weekend specials. Full breakfast every morning makes the rates very good for families. Some of the rooms are larger than others with very nice bathrooms. Teens can walk in the area at night and shop at Zara, the hot clothing store for young people. Excellent shopping area and easy walking to the Cathedral and to the Alhambra trolley. Highly recommend the hotel. Be sure to ask for specials. There is a carpark included, but located a block away. We had the attendent park the car on occasion. Pharmacy a half a block away. Custom shoe shop right across the street.

If you are after a charming, spanish hotel this isn't the hotel for you. It is huge and a chain but the location is great, it is quite easy to find and it is very good value for money.
The rooms are clean with good bathrooms and air con that works. The room I had was dark with a wall for a view.
Reasonably priced valet parking is available. No pool or gym as many websites state

Im not quite sure how the person from sydney can call this hotel basic and in need of upgrading. It is a very comfortable upmarket hotel with friendly and couteous staff. So it doesnt have a swimming pool.....that doesnt make it basic. Rooms were nicely, traditionally, decorated but with a contempoary feel. Breakfast is far batter than any you would get at an American or British chain hotel. I wouldnt stay anywhere else in Granada.

June 1-2, 2004. We stayed at the Melia Granada for one night and found it to be perfect. It is in a wonderful location, close to everything in a very up-scale neighborhood. Lovely room, great bathroom, comfortable beds. The staff at the hotel was also wonderful, and everyone was eager to help. When we called for an iron, it was delivered in five minutes. The staff also gave fantastic recommendations for dinner and drinks. The best thing, however, was that we had booked a discounted rate through the Sol Melia website, but the rate had gone down since the booking - something we would not have known about if the hotel had not taken it on themselves to give us the lower rate without our requesting it. Finally, the hotel parks your car (for a fee), which is a huge bonus in Granada.
WARNING - finding your way around in Granada is very difficult as there are almost no street signs (and yes, I know where to look for them). The best way to find the hotel is to follow the yellow signs pointing the direction to the hotel found on the major roads in town. If you do get lost, ask directions by landmarks, not by street name.
