Just stayed at the Melia Madrid Princesa Feb 7-13, 2004, while it is a nice hotel in a nice location, I think it fell just short of the 5 star they say it is. It wasn't as luxurious as a 5 star should be and was just a really nice business hotel. Loved the bar for after dinner drinks/conversations. Spa treatments were a little lacking as they seemed understaffed....Would recommend a stay here, however.

I first visited the Melia Princesa in 1999. I liked it so much I got married there in 2002 (if you can reserve Suite no 303 for a special occasion it really is amazing - best hotel suite in Spain for my money). I've now stayed there 7 times and I love the place. The best thing about it isn't the rooms or the food, it's the staff. They are all really lovely people most of whom have worked there all their working lives. If you can get a room on the 11th or 12th floors, go for it as the view over the city and the Royal Palace is breathtaking. My last trip was January 04 and the hotel has opened its new spa and leisure centre which is excellent. I thoroughly recommend this hotel.
You won't be disappointed.

I do not regret having found the Melia Madrid Princesa though the internet. My wife and I spent 5 days in Mardid out of the Melia Madrid Princesa and everything was perfect. The Metro was just around 75 yards from the front door and from there everything was so accessible. The staff were pleasant, courteous and attentive. Our room was tastefully furnished, though expectedly not extravagant. But clean, well lit, comfortable and not odorous. (Sometime you smell the old carpets ) THe bathroom was great ( according to my wife ) with mirrors and flowers and all others for the lady, including the bidet. The breakfast buffet was stupendous, serving spanish to continental fare in a huge room that bespoke of the warmth of a house. No regrets. will go back!

Nice location . Warm welcoming staff. Excellent breakfast. Nice dinner and again friendly, efficient staff. Bedrooms ordinary considering 4/5 star status. Surprised that leisure facilities such as swimming, sanu etc were 15 euros per person. Transpired it was a seperate company. Particular appreciation to concierge and door staff.
