Dec 13, 2012 Renovated in 2005, this country house and spa hotel was first constructed more than 700 years ago. The original turrets, arcades, and wood panelling lend the building, which is decorated in a very modern way, a historical ambience. The hotel comprises a total of 180 rooms, of which one is a junior suite and three are wheelchair-accessible, over three floors. Guests will be received in an ancient welcoming lobby, and can deposit any valuables in the hotel safe for the duration of their stay. Culinary options include an elegant bar and an air-conditioned restaurant with demarcated non-smoking area. A conference room is available for business meetings and conferences, and room service completes the offerings. There are on-site parking spaces available for those arriving by car.

Can do better
We arrived on Saturday 26 July to celebrate my partner's birthday with an overnight stay and chill out in the spa. This was our 3rd or 4th trip, but if it had been our first then I doubt we would have come back again. The hotel was full, but staff were friendly and helpful at check in. We were allocated Room 33, which was quite frankly terrible, in comparison to the other rooms we have stayed in. It was tiny, the floor was uneven so that when you walked around, the wardrobe wobbled. One of the plug sockets in the room had a faulty switch and would not stay switched on.The bathroom door didn't close properly. There were stains on the furniture and carpet, and the furniture was bashed and chipped. There were stains on the ceiling where there had been leaks from the rooms above. The shower was noisy and not very powerful and there was no shower curtain and nowhere to hang toiletry bags. There was no hairdryer in the room. As we knew the hotel was full we didn't complain, and although we planned on eating in the restaurant, we decided to go out for a drive, so we weren't stuck in the room, which was very hot (but this was not the fault of the room). We visited the spa twice, as this was one of the reasons for choosing the Dunkenhalgh, but some of the features weren't working properly - the Ice Fountain was out of action, and one of the showers was not working properly. Some of the tiles on the seats in the steam room are missing as well, and perhaps the spa area could do with a general spruce up. When we checked out we mentioned our concerns to the staff and when we said we had stayed in room 33, the member of staff looked as if to say "I am not surprised". Subodh (Front of House) came to speak to us, and said that if we book again, he will make sure that we are properly looked after. Not sure yet when or if we will be revisiting.

Excellent Stay and Fantastic booking with Otel :)
The hotel was beautifully decorated for christmas. The room was lovely with modern decor and nice and warm. I attended the black and white diamond event and service and food was excellent. All the staff throughout the stay were very polite and helpful. The beds and pillows were extremely comfortable. The breakfast was fantastic. An excellent choice of hot and cold food. You were given a table dependent of your party size and tea, coffee and toast was brought to your table. I was very impressed. I would definitely recommend booking with Otel. Check in was very quick so Otel had obviously made the booking so I encounted no problems at all. The booking process was quick and easy and I paid over 20% less then the Cheapest price found on the internet. I will definitely use Otel in the future

Needs a little bit of work in some of the rooms
From the outside the hotel looked very nice, the reception staff were very helpful. Inside the surroundings looked very plush. My room however was a little tired. There were no bedsides lamps, I did ask for one as reading with the main light on gives me a headache. The telephone in the room had a fault on the line so even if family had tried to contact me they wouldn't have been able to. Everywhere else in the hotel was as you would expect for a 4 Star Spa location. I would happily return for another stay at this hotel hopefully in a different room

Our night at the Dunkenhalgh
reception good changed our room which was in the court yard. It was like a granny flat. very small we got moved to the loft, It looked like the bridal suite.very big room but dated. It was better than the first room. The pool / steam rooms sauna etc were the best ever. All the staff were very pleasant, But would not go again.

This hotel brings you back to the medieval days!
I felt really nostalgic when I got to Dunkenhalgh Hotel & Spa Blackburn because of the design and atmosphere. The hotel looks like a small castle and it stands on a beautiful park giving that relaxing ambiance. I was actually there for an arms fair since I am a huge fan of rifles and other traditional ammo. My friend who lives near Blackburn invited me and he was nice enough to pick me up at the airport which was kinda far from the hotel so if I took a cab, it would be pretty expensive. I arrived a day before the event so I was able to tour around with my friend seeing the beach, museum and Trafford Center. I really like the design of the room even if its just small. It has a nice fireplace, chandelier and heater too. The bathroom was clean and what's awesome was the heated towel rack. Dunkenhalgh Hotel & Spa Blackburn has Wi-Fi but I had to pay an additional fee. For relaxation was the indoor pool and massage room...really loved it! My friend and I met up some new friends during the arms fair and we had a nice dinner at the Cameo Restaurant.
