Girls Weekend
We stayed in the hotel for 3 nights. The staff could not have been more helpful .The bedrooms were bright & spotless. The location was great with the Castle just in front of you as you went out the front door.Every where was in walking distance from the hotel. Would definately stay again.

Great hotel!
I stayed at this hotel for 2 days. It is an entirely non-smoking hotel which is very good for me as i really cannot stand the smell of the cigaratte smoke. The hotel is located ideally close to the historic old town and to the other main attractions in Edinburgh. You can see the Edinburgh Castle in front of you as soon as you step out the doorstep. The room i stayed in was a comfortable room with decent bathroom facilities. Point restaurant is a place to go and enjoy the delicious examples from the Scottish and international cuisines. Monboddo bar offers a relaxing atmosphere and offers snacks. It was a nice experience to stay at Mercure Point Hotel. Recommendable!

Good experience and good value
We have recently stayed at Point Hotel. The location of Point hotel is very convenient for many of the city centre sight - Princes Street, the Castle and the National Museum of Scotland are all within 15 minutes stroll. The hotel is decorated and furnished in a contemporary style. Our double room was very comfortable with a super view of the Castle. Bathroom was well appointed and had a bathtub with shower over. The buffet breakfast was OK. Most of the staff were friendly and helpful. Overall a good experience and good value for money.

Brilliant!!!
Point Hotel is a modern, inventive and thoughtful hotel conversed with attentive, professional staff who demonstrate a commitment to a great service. The hotel is located in a mixed area, close to Edinburgh's Old Town, many rooms with Castle views. Our room was fantastic, and far more stylish and well-appointed than we would have expected for a hotel in this price range - things like the lovely bed linen were a real treat when compared to what is on offer in most hotels these days. The bar is sleek and sophisticated, with a good range of drinks and local beers. The restaurant provides good quality, good value food - including an excellent breakfast on beautifully laid tables. Reception was sharp and crisp, and check in efficient, although occasionally busy. If you're looking for good value hotel, great service, from somewhere different to the repetitive predictability of the chain hotels, try Point Hotel!

I booked 3 nights at The Point as a surprise for my parner and I in February earlier in the year. The staff were lovely, particularly at Reception. We are well travelled and have stayed in numerous hotels both in the UK and abroad. We found our room on the small side, particularly the bathroom. However it was immaculate. We had a beautiful Castle view as pre-requested. The down-side of our stay were the very poor breakfasts. A great disappointment! We loved the location, close to the Castle and several lovely restaurants, including Stac Poly around the corner (amazing food and service). We have booked The Point again for next February. This time we are also taking two other couples along with us to share in our Edinburgh experience. Staff were very helpful in relation to our latest booking. Just hope those breakfasts have improved. Fresh juice and coffee would be nice for starters.

I don't think that you will sit on the fence with your opinion of this hotel. In my view, it is a modern classic. The rooms are clean and bright, simply designed and refreshing. They do not fall into the trap of pretentious, dated or retirement home in their feel. The restaurant served excellent well presented food and was reasonably priced. That said, the restaurant felt like a thoroughfare, although even this added further to the atmosphere of the place. I would thoroughly recommend the hotel for its location, value for money, quality of food and in particular, the stay in a place that is just a little different from the mundanity of everyday life.

Stay here if you're on a night out in Edinburgh, ok it's a little wierd but just go with it. Decent bar downstairs with reasonable staff and white russians at the bar...the rooms bright and fairly basic, a few clever design features - rolling walls & lighting, woke up looking at Edinburgh castle...missed breakfast

We booked a one-night stay at the Point Hotel for 60GBP per room with a toilet and shower/bath. We were very impressed at the location. We requested a castle view and we got one (maybe, the windows need some cleaning to get an even better view). We found an appetizing and affordable all-you-can-eat Chinese buffet restaurant around the corner, Jimmy Chung's. Also, we enjoyed pub food and watching Manchester United with the locals at Black Bull #12 down the street.

I booked the point hotel as i wanted to stay somewhere individual and different to make my partners birthday as special as possible. I got a good deal on the net but then saw the previous reviews and was worried -perhaps those people stayed somewhere else because we had a great time and wonderful room with a lovely view of the castle. If you expect the point to be the same as all other mass chain hotels dont go but if you want something a bit different, get a good deal and do. i was impressed, nowhere's perfect but the few flaws the place has weren't sigificant to me and as for the area we were a 5/10 min walk from most places and i didn't see anything untoward -maybe i've missed out!

Stayed here for a long weekend recently with my girlfriend and (after reading some of the bad reviews on this site which left me slightly worried!) we were pleasantly surprised... the good Points - large room with fantastic view of the castle, very central location, nice architecture and interior design (particularly the reception and bar), helpful staff, good price (found a deal on the net). the bad Points - fire alarm going off every morning, basic (soggy) breakfast, strange use of old and new furniture in rooms. Overall, a good hotel in a great location - approach with an open mind and you won't be disappointed.
