Macdonald Wessex Hotel was built in 1964, and is situated in the heart of Winchester City Center. The hotel runs alongside the famous Winchester Cathedral and within walking distance are the shops.
The hotel was constructed on the abbey site originally belonging to Winchester Cathedral. The purpose of the hotel being built was so that it could be used as a back drop for something nice to look at from the Cathedral and the grounds it is set in, before shops and office buildings were constructed. A point of interest is that the hotel houses the boilers that belong to the Cathedral in the basement. |
