This hotel has a classic charm to it. It's decor is traditional, but retains with it a taste of the past. Our room was huge - even by American standards. Breakfast was great and plentiful - the cappuccino is the best in Italy! The location cannot be beat. It is right on the main walkway along the end of the Grand Canal and is a 5 minute walk from the St. Mark's Square. The only negative is the obvious kickbacks the hotel gets from local restaurants. Whenever we asked for suggestions, the hotel pulled out brochures of upscale eateries! When asked about other places to eat (even other expensive restaurants), we were met with negative responses and immediately redirected to the restaurants they had advertisments for. Regardless, we really liked this hotel and would suggest it to anybody wanting fine lodging in Venice. |

gtahotels featured a poor review of the staff at this hotel and we were a it nervous about taking an elderly friend there. What we found could not have been more different from the 'rude staff' reported by a previous visitor. The staff were exceptionally helpful and friendly - always ready to provide information or help, and smiling and charming. They went out of their way to make sure that everyone in our party was looked after. Maybe the previous reviewer found the hotel on a bad day? We'll definitely be going back! |

My husband and I arrived via limousine watertaxi on my birthday for a 13-night stay, in January of 2002. It was our third time in our favourite Venice and our first Carnival there. I had called at least 20 hotels before I finally called the Metropole. I was tired of being ripped off by offers of exorbitant prices; after all, it is the most expensive time of the year to go there (worth every penny) but two weeks merited some consideration. The written confirmation by the Metropole manager expressed they were looking not only for customers, but for future friendship I got a fair price and a beautiful big room with a great bath. We had a view of a small canal below. We received complementary fresh fruits and, for my birthday, a bottle of Italian sparkling wine. The concierge, Mr. Enzo, treated us like family. We had ruguetta, tomatoes and mozzarella daily for breakfast along with other goodies. The dinner in the restaurant was good with live Venetian music matching its cozy ambiance. The location at 800m of Piazza San Marco couldnt be beaten. It was perfect: colourful Venetian costumes at San Marco contrasting the black-and-white winter, amazing masked ball at a Venetian palace, and staying at a great historical hotel. I will never forget this experience and I would definitely stay at the Metropole again. |

We just returned from Italy, and the highlight of our trip was staying at the Metropole in Venice. In addition to Venice being a wonderful and enchanting city, the Metropole was just over the top. Pulling up to their lobby in a water taxi made you feel like you were royality. The rooms were decorated with care and the service was excellent. We can't wait to go back! |

We moved to the Metropole after a night in another hotel. We felt we needed a little pampering, and we wanted to be in the center of all the action.
The Metropole is just a short walk from Saint Mark's Square. We didn't arrive by boat, but if you do they have their own entrance right on the Canal.
The Metropole is a great Hotel, well decorated with hundreds of antiques and tasteful accoutrements. When I go back to Italy we will spend a lot more time in Venice and the Metropole is where I want to be! Highly recommended. |

We arrived via water taxi (70 euros, a bit expensive). We just got back from the trip and it was cold and windy in Venice. There were 4 adults and one 3 year old in our group. The hotel was perfect. We had a suite with an adjoining double room (#337 and 339). Beautiful rooms with a great bath in the suite #337. We had a view of the gardens below. No canal view from this room. The staff was polite and informative. We had dinner in the restaurant and the food was wonderful. The ambiance is very Venitian and cozy. Breakfast is great and is included in the room rate. We felt welcomed and comfortable during our two night stay. The location couldn't have been better-on the grand canal. I recommend this hotel and would stay there in the future. |

Let me first start by saying that if your going to Venice, it would be a shame to miss out on this lovely, romantic hotel that is only surpassed by its service. It is just steps away from Saint Mark Square and can be accessed directly by the water taxi or you can take the water bus (much cheaper) to a stop that is only a short walk. The Metropole appears to be less than a 4-Star hotel from the outside, however, once you step inside you will immediately know that you've chosen wisely. The antique and silver decor creates a cozy and romantic atmosphere that feels very "Venetian." They also will give you a free boat ride over to Murano, however, you will only get to see one glass factory. You would be better off to go independently if you really want to shop around. Make sure that you don't miss the breakfast that is included with your stay, it was my personal favorite. However, the restaurant is very expensive, so I'd recommend going elsewhere for dinner. Overall, this was the nicest hotel that we stayed in during our trip to Italy. |

On January 1, 2004, my husband and I returned from a ten day trip to Venice where we stayed at the beautiful Metropole Hotel. We received a warm welcome from the staff at the front desk on arrival and were delighted to find our spacious room furnished with beautiful antiques.
A basket of fruit, box of biscuits from Burano and special bath salts were lovely extras that greeted us in the room. The sheets on the bed were exceptional luxury quality percale and were changed every day. The maid came back every evening to freshen up the room while we were out.
The front desk staff were exceptionally helpful to us in obtaining phone numbers, making dinner reservations, obtaining concert tickets and looking after other special requests. Moreover, they anticipated our needs which we really appreciated. On our fourth day, I reluctantly requested a room change because there was a lot of noise in the room overhead every morning starting at 7:00 am. We were given an even more spacious room (#401) with windows facing east, north (across the roof tops at church towers and sweeping distant views) and west. In addition the room had a lovely rooftop terrace where we could see across the lagoon. This was my third trip to Venice in 15 years and the first trip for my husband. We had a wonderful, memorable time, not in the least because of this hotel. I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to others. |

Stayed 3 nights -- arrived 11/09/03. The attached boat dock was greatly appreciated when we arrived on a cold, wet night and were taken from the train direclty to the hotel. (Many people have to drag luggage to the hotels not on the canal.)
Metropole is located near St. Marks' Square.
The hotel is very old and the room was small, but adequate. The headboard was a lovely antique one and there were other antiques in the room. The newly done washroom was large and beautiful.
The staff is very pleasant and helpful. There is a new gormet restaurant (with a separate nonsmoking room). The food was very good and since it was our first night in Venice, it was nice to have a cappuccino at the bar and have dinner later.
The various antiques on display were quite a hodge podge and some could have used a good cleaning although the hotel, itself was attractive.
Lovely garden to use in warmer weather. PG |
