Excellent hotel. Staff incredibly helpful and views wonderful. Good food - sorry to leave... Only downside was the weather but shouldn't complain in October.

Stayed 2 wks in the Minerva in June 03, when we first arrived they put us in a room in the older part of the hotel (below reception). It was damp and horrible. My fiance asked for an upgrade which we had to pay for. Anyway our new room was great, fab views and really bright, clean and modern. This was the only bad part of the trip.
That night we had dinner on the restaurant, balcony table overlooking the bay. Spectacular views, i thought the food was great too and the waiters were real gentlemen. I have fond memories as got engaged that evening. I would reccommend the hotel, except ask for a room above reception, it may cost a little more, but worth it. Sorrento was great, lots of excursions. Capri was fab, spent the day window shopping and browsed in 'Prada'. then sipped beer on the beach. We will definetley go back! Lots to do and see.

A wonderful choice--we would definitely stay at the Minerva again! We spent a week with another couple at the Minerva in June 2004 and we all loved it. The location is terrific--walking distance to town but away from the city noise and traffic. The restaurant, the large, landscaped terrace, and our rooms overlooked the sea, with a beautiful panoramic view of Sorrento and Vesuvius. The hotel also has a good-sized rooftop swimming pool, Internet access, and a very friendly, helpful staff. Like the city of Sorrento, it attracts lots of Brits, and the restaurant offerings reflects that clientele.

Our first stop for our honeymoon and we loved it. The service was wonderful and the views simply amazing! We had a room overlooking the Gulf of Naples. The pool area is small but very nice with grand views and helpful staff. Breakfast was included and was lovely. When we return to Sorrento, we'll stay here. Definitely.

Have just arrived back from a 4 night stay at the Hotel Minerva and can't recommend it enough.. Went with 2 friends and shared a lovely triple room with an amazing view of the bay. The staff here are incredibly helpful and friendly and the location suited us fine as it was just far enough away from the main town to be able to get some peace but near enough to walk in. In comparison to some of the other hotels in Sorrento this hotel has a really friendly, personal feel and this really made our holiday special.

We enjoyed a pleasant 2-night stay at the Hotel Minerva in Sorrento in June. Can't understand why some people are posting that this hotel was expensive...we paid a very reasonable price and booked directly with the hotel...This was our cheapest hotel on our 2-week trip to Italy, and we got a double room with a great view high enough above the street so that, with the window closed at night, we couldn't hear the street noise. Our kids had a triple room, also a good price.
Because we were saving money on this hotel compared to other hotels in Italy, I honestly wasn't expecting much, but we found the Hotel Minerva surprised us with how much they had to offer! The view from their outside patio, where you can take breakfast (or dinner), was awesome and romantic. Breakfast was also a surprise, as it was very good and offered a variety of foods to choose from in the buffet. All of this included in the price of the room.
We didn't have time for the pool as this was our base for 2 day-tours of the area.
It's important to be specific about what type of room you want...for the double we specified a room with a view that is quiet at night for sleeping. Also I requested a balcony. I also re-confirmed the reservation with the hotel by e-mail 1 month before our trip. (I arranged the reservation months in advance.) I also requested a triple for the kids, and wasn't specific about requirements for this room except that we wanted 3 separate beds.
Only one problem we found with this hotel was that when you are walking through the public areas, there was a damp musty smell...But our driver told us this was a common problem in Sorrento. It didn't bother us as our room, above the street and NOT on the ground floor, smelled fine.
This hotel is absolutely worth the price we paid...We paid a discounted price of around 150 for the double and around 155 or 160 for the triple, for June, which is high season.
The Hotel Minerva is located on a narrow busy street, so it's not a good location if you want to do lots of walking, unless you are willing to get a taxi into the main part of town. But we were based here for 2 separate day-tours with private drivers with minivans for our family or 5, so we didn't do any walking from the hotel. This hotel is a great location for day-tours of Pompeii and Vesuvius, and also for day-tours of Amalfi coast/Positano/Praiano/Ravello.
My husband and I enjoyed a very romantic stay at the Hotel Minerva. For the money we saved, we didn't mind the mysterious musty smells in the public areas...Wouldn't want to stay on the first floor, however, as I would expect rooms on the first floor might share that musty smell.
When I remember the Hotel Minerva, I remember pleasant, romantic breakfasts with great cappucino on the patio outside with a view-to-remember, and also standing on that same patio with my husband at night and sharing a romantic moment.

I was surprised to read the last review. Our family of four stayed at the hotel July 3-5 and July 9 and loved the hotel. We first had a bright yellow-tiled room on the 7th floor with magnificent views of the sea, Sorrento and Naples. Our next room on the the 5th floor, had a large balcony (although I missed the yellow floors and the view wasn't quite as perfect). The staff was friendly and helpful including storing our excess luggage when we visited Capri and Positano. Breakfast was nicely served on the terrace. Location is great with a short walk into town. We don't go to Europe for the swimming pools but it was wonderful on the top terrace with amazing views. Friendly Francesco takes care of everyone and the pool sparkles. Large towels can be rented for one euro. This was less then other hotels we visited. This hotel was a favorite.

What a wonderful Hotel and Staff. The room was lovely and the view was amazing. Just enough distance from town. Extended our stay for one week in June of 2003 and hope to return soon for a longer stay.
Don't miss this great Hotel.

Wonderful accomodations and a very helpful staff made our short one-night stay great. Desk staff made dinner arrangements for our group of 8 and it was terrific. Rooms were very clean and most comfortable.
