Location, Climate

Russia's capital city is Moscow which is situated at the Central Federal District and Moska River. The Yakuza River also flows into the city through the east of Moskva in Kremlin. The climate of Moscow is humid continental having hot and humid summers and long and cold winters. The best time to visit Moscow is between June to August when the weather is warm and sunny.

Brief History

The history of Moscow began during the 12th century when Prince Yuri Dolguruky invaded the city and built military defenses within the area. It soon became a trading post and continued to prosper because of the rich noblemen backing up the armies. Famous structures were built during the 15th century including the cathedrals of Kremlin which are now considered an iconic landmark.

Moscow hosts various festivals annually, but one of the most unique and well-attended events is the Maslenitsa Festival which is also called the Pancake Festival held in February. Make sure to reserve a hotel during this time because thousands of tourists go here to celebrate the beginning of summer with the traditional pancake dish and burning of straw. The most-visited places in Moscow are the Red Square, Kremlin, Old and New Arbat Streets, Gorky Park and Tverskaya Street. Other popular attractions include the Tretyakov Gallery, Bolshoi Theatre, Novodevichy Convent, Church of the Ascension, Pushkin Museum and Moscow Zoo.

Since most attractions are located near each other, then it is best to see them by foot. If you want to explore other parts of Moscow, the fastest and most convenient is the metro.
