We just stayed three nights at the Mundial and would heartily recommend its location to anyone looking for a "close to the heart of Lisbon" location. The twin room was generously sized, had all the facilities, and breakfast buffet was varied and plentiful. Staff friendly and helpful. It should be noted, though, that building work next door meant that 7am was wake up time each morning at end October 2003! Check out if it is complete when considering a booking!!

Spent 4 nights at the Mundial, our room was spacious clean and well furnished, the staff were very pleasant and helpful, we had an excellent view overlooking the square Martin Moniz. This hotel is very well placed and ideal for exploring this very interesting city, the metro is 100 yard away and the whole transport system in Lisbon is very cheap and efficient.
The breakfast which we took in the top floor resturant was very good (with a fabulous view to match). We only used the 1st floor resturant once and found it acceptable but nothing special, the hotel bar is very pleasant and reasonably priced.

We have visited the Hotel Mundial on three different occasions and are planing on returning again next year. Our room was very comfortable with all the amenities, and we had a wonderful view overlooking the fountain. Dining staff were very friendly and attentive, and in fact immediatly recognized my wife and I from our visit there one year before.Food and ambience were excellent in both restaurants and a highlight for us was a wonderful dinner in the rooftop restaurant with a great view of the city. A very good Buffet breakfast was also available. The Hotel Mundial is in our opinion well deserving of 4 stars. It is very centrally located.

We've just returned from a wonderful weekend break in Lisbon. We stayed at the Hotel Mundial which is right in the centre of Lisbon- a stone's throw from the main squares, shopping areas, River Tagus and the historic Alfama region. Our spacious room at the Mundial had recently been refurbished and provided very comfortable amenities, pleasing decor, a firm bed with freshly laundered crisp white sheets, a panoramic window overlooking a plaza of sparkling fountains and an ensuite bathroom with full size bath and shower. An excellent buffet style breakfast was available in the light, airy breakfast room and dinner in the circular Verandah restaurant on the top floor of the hotel was superb. This restaurant commanded panoramic views of the city. The service was excellent. We found the staff to be extremely courteous and helpful at all times. The highlight of our weekend was a trip in a private car organised by the hotel to Sintra and back along the Estoril Coast to Lisbon. Our driver, Paolo, was an extermely amiable and knowledgeable guide who obviously loved his work and delighted in pointing out the sights and the tourist attractions. By the end foi the trip we felt we'd made a new friend. The Hotelr Mundial is a perfect venue for anyone wishing to stay in Lisbon and we hope to go back there soon.

I had the misfortune to stay at the Mundial.
The room was so small that you couldn't even lay out a suitcase.
The bathroom was so small that it didn't have a bath - just a very small shower.
The room where breakfast was served was so small that we had to queue for 10 minutes before being served.
The staff were disinterested - one was reading a book while I was waiting to speak to him and the maid failed to make the bed or change the toilet roll on any occasion.
Overall, I have no idea how they can claim to be a 4* hotel - it was awful!
Your choice but, I'd stay somewhere (anywhere) else!

The Mundials location was excellant.On arrival we were informed that there were no rooms for any of our party(We had booked and confirmed months ago)We were transferred to the Plaza for our first night and returned to the mundial the following morning.This was done at the Mundials expense the only drawback was that the driver who transferred us was very persistant in trying to sell us anything from tours of Lisbon to double glazing.As with a previous comment, the rooms did not have tea/coffee making facilities and the breakfast choice could have been better.

Stayed at the Mundial for three nights last week. I couldn't rate it more highly. The room had views over the city, across the river and the earthquake-hit nunnery, the Elevador de Santa Justa. Stunning sunrises from the restaurant and a good breakfast selection. Our shower was broken the first night there, so the management upgraded us to a huge room and seemed to forget our minibar tab from the original room. Big TV. Big bed. The best location in town. Friendly staff. No complaints.

Just returned from a week at the Mundial. Room was large on 5th floor with good view although not of the fort. Staff very polite and helpful and the room was clean and comfortable. Bathroom large and shower powerful. Downside - noisy (due to traffic day and night) in spite of double glazing most noticeable of course at night. Irritatingly there was no tea or coffee making facility (i.e. no kettle and cups). The hotel is large and building well advanced to make it even bigger.
Breakfast standard hotel fare - fair range/variety/quantity but poor supply of fresh fruit - only oranges available to us. You couldn't ask for a better tourist location with public transport, restaurants and tourist attractions all within walking distance. It just about deserves the 4* rating. On our arrival we were told that they had overbooked and we had been booked in for one night in the Tivoli Jadim. Although it was annoying, the staff were very open in accepting responsibility and transfer arrangements were smooth. Tivoli Jadim v Mundial? Difficult to say - they were similar. Smaller room and tiny bathroom in the Tivoli (but then they knew we were returning to another hotel)but they did have offer a kettle and good fresh fruit for breakfast. The Jadim is in the Avenida de Libedade - quieter but not as convenient for tourists.
You wouldn't go far wrong with either.

We arrived at this large modern imposing hotel over looking a square in central Lisbon during Euro2004. I had booked a double bed (via Hotels) - when arriving we also asked from a room with a view - which we were told that all rooms had excellent views! Found our room (2nd flr) - it had a view of more hotel rooms - and two beds. Went back to reception to try again - this time we got a room on 9th (top) floor with one bed! It had an excellent view and as well as being very clean and modern.
NB: The two hotels which we stayed in could not provide iron's to the room and everything had to be taken away to laundry - not ideal if you're in a rush - so pack your travel iron before going to Portugal!
Location: It's ideal for walking to all the local attractions - and also walking distance to the trams.
Overall: Would definitely stay again ?€“ just make sure your room is near the top of the building or on the front.

My husband and I just returned from Lisbon and we were happy with our stay at the Mundial. Our room was clean and much bigger than I expected with two twin beds that were fairly comfortable. The walls are thin but that's typical in Europe. Although the staff speaks English we didn't find them to be overly friendly. The location is terrific and the breakfast was great. Overall I would recommend this hotel.
