Lovely gataway for a weekend
We stayed at the NH Barbizon Palace over a weekend and found it to be a superb hotel in the heart of Amsterdam. It's in a great location within walking distance of the Central train station, tram routes.
It was pretty crowded weekend, therefore we expected the service to be understandably lacking, however we were pleasantly surprised and found the service to be excellent. The room was beautiful and spacious - comfortable king sized bed, large television, business / living area with desk and plenty of storage. Tea / coffee supplies were topped up daily and room cleaned. Marble bathroom was fantastic, well equipped with a large bath and separate large shower; the complimentary toiletries were wonderful too. We didn't experience much noise during our stay even though Amsterdam and the hotel were very busy. NH Barbizon Palace is a great place to stay and a lovely getaway for a weekend.

WE spent 2 nights at this hotel. It located downtown near the central station. A great location for site seeing. The rooms had all the amenitites expected for a first class hotel. Staff was knowledgeable about how to get to local attractions. I highly recommend this hotel and will stay there again when we return to Amsterdam.

Stayed at the Barbazon for 9 nights and were very pleased. The room was clean, large and modern. The housekeeping was very thorough and efficient. The attitude of all the staff (including housekeeping) was friendly and respectful ( in fact we were allowed to check in at 10:30AM even though it is posted for 3:00PM). The breakfast offered a wide variety of foods that were delicious (though the coffee was nothing to write home about!) The Barbazon is expensive to be sure and perhaps unreasonably for a hotel room but we found virtually nothing to complain about and everything to be to our liking. The location near Central Station was a definite plus. It's not cheap but it's a very nice place to stay.

Spent a long weekend in Amsterdam recently with my Girlfriend. I was pleased to find that the Hotel was so well located close to the Central train station and historic centre, but not too busy. It was a great location to base yourself for a weekend of exploring.
I did find that although Hotel facilities were excellent, the rooms themselves were not quite as good as I had hoped, and not quite up to the 5 star standard advertised. The rooms were rather small, and the furniture adequate, but nothing spectacular.
The service we received however was excellent, the staff were polite and very helpful.
I would have no issue with staying here again, but I am not not sure I would be happy to pay the amount I did to do so.

Location is superb - get of the train at Centraal Station and it's in sight on the left. 5 minutes walk to Dam Square and all the attractions. Plush lobby and reception but the rooms are a bit dated furniture wise. Bathrooms are fine but not 5*. Take advantage of the free danish pastries at reception before going out especially if your rate hasn't got breakfast like ours! I would happily stay there again mainly for the location but I think I'll look around just for the sake of a change

I stayed at this hotel the first week of january 2003. The hotel location was great, right by the main square and a short walk to the central station, department stores/districts, and the red light district. i pictures you view on the internet of this hotel are exaggerated. i have seen images of beamed-ceiling rooms wide-agled exaggerated lobby, etc. though the i stayed in was large, unfortunately was a bit dark and stuffy with dated 1980s furniture and apolstered in orange-red. additionally, i had to ask the front desk two days during my stay to have housekeeping change out the towels and make the bed. the hotel staff was very pleasant and tried to accomidate. though this is a large, decent hotel, i would rate it at 4 stars.

In January 2001 we visited the Barbizon Palace hotel in Amsterdam. The hotel is in the most perfect location right opposite the Central Station and within 5 minutes walk of the main shopping area.
Our room was both spacious and luxurious overlooking the station. Our three trip was relaxing due to the service provided by the hotel. 100% customer service is provided throughout the hotel and the ambience is delightful.
The breakfast room is buffet style with an abundance to choose from. We did not eat in the dining room but did take a look into it and once again luxurious looking!
So if you are visiting Amsterdam I totally recommend you stay here if its 5 star treatment you want!!
