Decent hotel, great location. It's like a well-worn airport Marriott--generic, convenient and not too expensive.

I've stayed here several times. I will stay here again.. On the good side, fantastic central location. Some of the rooms are large and have fantastic views. Nice marble bathrooms. If you get the right room at the right price with the right view you might be very happy. I'll go back .

The Jolly Carlton was an excellent base for our 4 night stay. We had a 6th floor non-smoking room with balcony overlooking Vijzelstraat. The room was on the small side, but was comfortable, clean and well serviced each day. There is adequate storage and hanging space, the bathroom with shower was spotlessly clean, lovely towels and an array of toiletries provided. There is a coffee/tea tray provided and of course the mini bar, which despite not opening were presented with a bill for this when checking out, (this was very courteously rectified).
The buffet breakfast was superb, especially the fresh fruit tray. The entrance to the hotel is just a couple of minutes walk from a tram stop (4 routes) the same distance from one of the main shopping areas, and across the road from a street with an internet cafe and the Tuchinski theatre (cinema). Despite having purchased a strippenkart, we found that we walked to most places such was the central location of this hotel.

My husband and I had stayed at the Jolly Carlton previously and although the room was quite small, we had no hesitation putting my father and his companion there, when we booked them a trip to Amsterdam as a Christmas present. The major plus for this hotel is it's position.
It's right in the heart of things and central for all attractions, right next to the flower market and on the main tram routes. I e-mailed the hotel ahead and explained the stay was a gift and they were wonderful to my dad (in his mid-seventies) and gave them a huge room with luxury bathroom. They could not have asked for more!Dad says the buffet breakfast was first class and not unreasonable at 10 Euros a head (free on the last morning for some reason too!). Front desk and concierge were friendly and helpful, especially sorting out transportation to the airport for the return journey. Our last trip to Amsterdam we stayed nearer the station but would return to the Jolly Carlton for it's position alone.

Having read all the terrible reviews of this hotel AFTER i had booked a surprise break for my partner and me i was starting to panic and was seriously considering trying to cancel and book somewhere else!
However, i decided to stick with what i had chosen thanks to the one very positive email that was posted. I have to say, i am a very picky person and i was delighted with the hotel. The hotel itself was immaculate from the moment you walk in the door all the way to the room. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was a good size and had a king size bed, plenty of wardrobe space and a large bathroom. The room decor was fine and the carpets were clean (contrary to popular belief)! There was an abundance of towels and toiletries and the whole room looked and smelled clean. We were on the 6th floor, which was excellent as the lifts work perfectly and we had a balcony which had fantastic views. The only thing i would say is a potential negative is that the food and drink is rather pricey! However, in such a fantastic location as this hotel is it really doesn't matter as you can step out of the hotel and choose from dozens of places to eat, drink, whatever! Would definitely stay here again.

Excellent hotel which is located next to the floating flower market and is close enough to all amenities. The staff were helpful and courteous. They also have a good shuttle service from the Hotel to the Airport as all good hotels do.

Very dissapointed. We expected 4 start delux hotel for what we paid. I would give no more that 3 stars. Very, very small room with dirty carpet and mildew in the bathroom. Breaskfast was good but I suggest to eat outside and try some different food every day, especially variety of pancakes. Front deck was helpful, but wake up calls, we requested twice, were 30 minutes earlier. I wouldn't stay here again.

We had already booked to spend 4 nights at the hotel for an Easter break when I came across the above reviews. I became rather concerned about what we might be letting ourselves in for from the 'terrible' gradings but needn't have worried at all. By chance we did arrive a bit earlier than check-in time but we had no problem being assigned a room. On walking in we were both very impressed - a good sized room, spotlessly clean, and the bathroom appeared to have been recently refurbished. The bedlinen was changed daily, towels were plentiful and soft. 'Goodnight chocolates' were left by the bedside. Best of all, the room overlooked the Floating Flower Market, and was in an ideal central location. We did not dine in either of the hotel's evening restaurants, but the breakfast buffet was superb, and despite the hotel being full and breakfast busy, staff kept everything refilled. All the staff we met were pleasant and helpful, and if we should return to Amsterdam on another occasion, this is where I would want to stay!

This Hotel has a good location - and that is about it. We stayed there in June, 2002 for 7 nights. We arrived early in the morning, and asked for an early check-in (we had been traveling for the past 20 hours). The front desk was mobbed with Italian tour groups checking out, but when we finally got to the desk, they said that they would give us the next available room. We ended up getting "bumped" from the list by noiser, more irate guests than ourselves, and finally checked in around 2:30.The room was so small that there was essentially only room for the double bed. (not really a big deal if that was the only problem). The staff was amzingly rude, almost to the point of being comical. At one point, a staff member and her trainee rolled their eyes at each other when I asked for assistance in using the telephone in the lobby (it turned out to be broken). An example of how this hotel treats its guest is the towel status assigned to various rooms. We had an internet deal (140 EU/night). Our towels were so worn and threadbare, they were not usable for anything but rags. The same towels, only less than 10 years old and still relatively plush were reserved for higher status guests. We learned to pilfer usable towels from the housekeeping store-room during the day.The beakfast was included in the price of the room, but after one breakfast, we found more attractive places to eat.In a city full of hotels, there is no reason to abuse yourself by staying at this one.

We stayed at the Jolly Carlton in August for 3 nights. We took advantage of a stay three nights only pay for two offer. The location of the hotel is fantastic; it is within easy walking distance from practically anywhere. As a bonus it is easily accessible from Central Station (about a 15 minute walk), which saves a fortune in taxi fares to, and from the airport. The room we got was large and with all the amenities you could possibly need - even the minibar prices were reasonable. The staff were polite and helpful and the breakfast was plentiful. Overall a great hotel although in my opinion slightly over priced. That said though, I'd definitely go back there.
