It is modern, with lovely rooms and the view is excellent. The room is spacious, the bed very comfortable and the bathroom simply heavenly, complete with shower room AND bath. The breakfast was excellent too. Never before have I experienced a hotel as lovely and comfortable as this in London. To top it off, the staff are friendly and helpful. Love it and will stay no where else in London now.

As I arrive at the new Novotel Excel my thoughts were 'just another ok hotel- another Novotel', but I was soon proven wrong. As you reach the reception you immediately get the feeling that this is not the common Novotel this is something special. The lobby is modern and colourful - full of life. The bar looks like some trendy west end bar and the terrace overlooking the dock makes you feel relaxed, specially while you try the Strawberry rush cocktail.... the best.My room was a standard double with all the facilities you need in a room, even the tv is positioned in a way so you can see it while relaxing in the bath. It also has an excellent walk-in shower. I also had the chance to see the suite which I found to be excellent value for what you got.A bonus is also that no matter what type of room you are staying in you can use the gym and sauna and the best of all steam room.An all rounder good hotel, best to get in there while it's new as they have great rates available.

We arrived at the Novotel on a very hot and humid day and were grateful to walk into a cool, airy and modern reception area. Our room was very clean, quite large with enough space for a sofa, chair and stool and the air conditioning was a Godsend throughout our stay. Out the window, the views were good, overlooking the Royal Victoria Dock and Excel Exhibition Centre and was extremely quiet, with the exception of the aircraft using London City Airport. The noise from the aircraft was not a problem and did provide some further interest. Food at the hotel was wonderful, with the bar menu offering extremely good value for money; try the Sea Bass on tomato risotto, Nasi Goreng or Club Sandwich, and if you can, Summer Pudding or Tiramisu from the restaurant menu - Mmmm. The restaurant, terrace and bar are pleasant and relaxing where we spent some time unwinding after a busy day visiting the sites of London. The one thing that stands out from everything else is the way we were always greeted by any member of staff, who were always extremely helpful. The one thing that is not in the hotel?€™s favour is its location. Being so far out, it does take some time to reach the centre by the tube, but not a problem if you spend all day out and return to the hotel to relax in the evening.
So would I stay at the Novotel Excel again? Absoloutely. It is a great hotel with excellent staff.

I stayed at the hotel last weeked with my Husband and 12 year old. We were very impressed with the modern decor when entering the hotel. Everything was very clean and the whole hotel had a quiet relaxed air. The rooms were above average with a fold out sofa bed for children and a nice comfy double bed for us. The bathroom was nice and clean although when we arrived the plug didn't work for the sink and the taps didn't work for the bath! As we were only staying for one night we didn't feel it necessary to complain and just used the very nice shower instead. The buffet breakfast was fantastic (very tasty and lots of variety) and kept us going for the whole day. This hotels major disadvantage is it's location. We normally stay in the dockalnds when we visit london as it is much quieter than the city but this was a bit far out even by our standards and the ticket machines at the royal victoria station didn't allow us to buy child or family tickets which was a bit of a pain. On the whole this is a wonderful hotel which is let down by it's location. We prefered our time at The Britannia International hotel which has the advantages of having all the attractions of Canary wharf and is a little bit closer to the centre.
