My husband and I toured Tuscany this August and we ended up at the Park Hotel without a reservation. We got a basic room for ?‚?180,00 and were very happy with it. The tiles in the bathroom were a little bit outdated, but we could live with that, as everything else was EXCELLENT. The staff is young, bright and enthusiastic and they speak at least 3 languages fluently. The standard of service is high, the Front Office Manager was trained in the US and she's great! Within 5 minutes she arranged a rental car, a tour guide for the day and a reservation in a romantic restaurant. Didn't try their restaurant, because we wanted to spend the evening downtown. A charming little hotel on the outskirts of Siena.
The staff were very helpful and extremely friendly and we felt very much at home. Lovely swimming pool and generally not too busy. The room we had was a very good size and the bed was large and very comfortable. Bathroom is large and well appointed. The turndown service is a nice touch with towels changed twice a day. Chocolates on the pillow one night and one boiled sweet on the alternate night - our only complaint! There is a sister hotel in the heart of Siena which shares the minibus and staff there treat you like a special guest as well. Nice little bar in Siena hotel if you are waiting for the minibus or a taxi which the staff will arrange for you. Food very good with dining on the terrace in good weather. Very romantic.

The Park Hotel is housed in a lovely 16th century villa several miles North of Siena. The front desk staff in particular was very polite and efficient. The view from the hotel is lovely and there is a small golf course next to the hotel. The breakfast was IMMENSE!!! It was a lavish display with almost anything you could imagine! The breakfast room is beautiful and really adds to the experience. The downstairs lobby, sitting room, and bar are all decorated with antique tapestries and the portraits of past owners of the villa enhance the overall Medieval effect.
However, the guest rooms aren't quite as nice as the lobby and sitting areas. I found them adequate for a 4 star hotel in Italy, but they could maybe use a little bit of work. The beds were nice with lovely bedspreads, etc, but the sheets were a bit scratchy. The closet in our room looked like something out of the late 60's and could really stand to be replaced. For reference, we paid for the least expensive room type so there may be better rooms to be had.
The bathrooms are large by European standards. They are somewhat darkly lit, however. My biggest complaint about the hotel was the water pressure. In order to have a hot (okay...lukewarm) shower, you had to turn the dial all the way to hot which resulted in nothing but a trickle at best. Really irksome! Also, the tile was cracked on the bathroom floor and needed repair.
Also, the hotel staff seemed surprised that we did not have a rental car. We quickly learned why: the hotel is a 25 minute walk to Siena (and we walk quickly). We walked once and then used cabs the rest of the time which usually amounted to about 8 Euros. So WARNING: unless you plan to walk A LOT you should factor your taxi fare into your hotel cost.
My overall rating: A pretty good 4 star hotel in Italy where they put a lot of money into the common areas, but skimp on the rooms a bit. It's not terribly convenient to Siena, but makes up for that somewhat with a great view and some quiet.
