Great Quality/Price Relation
It's a 4* a bit old but very clean and quiet. Very friendly staff; close to a lot of restaurants/pubs , bus stops, ... What else? Would repeat? Definitively YES

In April 2004 we visited the Islands of Malta and Gozo, Republic of Malta in the Mediterranean. We spent there 12 days ? I wish, we could have stayed much longer! In Malta we stayed at the Park hotel, in the town of Sliema. Sliema is a touristy town, across the harbour from the capital city of Valetta. The Park hotel is on the North shore, but on a small side street - not much traffic. But nearby there is a bus stop, with very frequent service to Valetta and to everywhere elso on the islands. Two blocks away is a ferry terminal, from where you can take cruises around Valetta & Malta, as well as ferries to Gozo & Sicily. The Park hotel is nice4, but not one of those huge tourist monsters, which I hate. There is a good restaurant, a bar, an indoor swimming pool, a hot-tub etc. Around there are many restaurants, tourist agencies, stores etc. There is also Internet access, a laundry, etc. All not too expensive. In summertime there is easy access to the sea. In Gozo we stayed at the luxurious Ta Cheng hotel ? an experience all by itself! you stay in separate cabins, or in exotic "beehive" cottages, which are really something else! There are numerous indoor and outdoor pools, hot tubs, heated pools etc. There are all kinds of luxury, a verdant vegetation, beautiful views of the sea and cliffs. Good restaurants, lounges etc. A real paradise for rest and recuperation! But rather pricey. Both island offer numerous sightseeing opportunities: ? Prehistoric ruins ? the oldest standing buildings on earth, anywhere (4,600-3,500 BC, a thousand years older than the Egyptian pyramids!). That includes above-ground temple complexes (Tarxien, Ggantea, etc), or underground burial-temple complexes (Hypogeum); 35 separate sites in all. ? Spectacular fortifications built by the Maltese Knights of St. John. Valetta, Victoriosa and other fortified towns are the best examples. There are bastions, towers, gates etc. In addition, there are palaces, auberges, cathedrals, armouries, churches, hospitals, etc from the times of the Knights. ? Arabic-style walled cities, with narrow winding streets etc. Mdina, Rabat, Mgarr, Victoria etc are the best examples. ? Numerous remains of the various people who inhabited Malta: Phoenicians, Romans, Arabs, Italians, Spanish, French, British. Especially of note are the village and town churches. ? The cliffs, caves, rocks etc on the shores of both islands. There is the Blue Grotto, the Fungus Rock, the Calypso Cave, etc, etc, etc. ? The legends and fables surrounding Malta are numerous. There apparently St Paul was shipwrecked in 60 AD & converted Maltese to Christianity. (There are catacombs and underground churches from Roman times). Odysseus (Ulysses) spent 7 years with the nymph Calypso in her cave in Gozo. The Knights were subject to a terrible siege by the Ottoman Turks in the 16th century, but defended Malta successfully with 500 knights against 50,000 Turks. Corsairs from Africa raided the island over centuries ? hence all those fortresses. In WW2 the nazis tried to take Malta, but the Maltese withstood the bombing ? the worst in history. And so on. For the sports-minded there is sailing, swimming, snorkeling etc during the summer. The islands are small; you can really walk anywhere. But there are also: busses, tours, rental cars and ferries.
