Location, Climate

Pisa is one of the most-visited cities in Italy. This charming city can be found on the northern part of Tuscany and near the city of Florence. The peak season in Pisa is during summertime so make sure to book cheap hotels in advance to avoid the hassles of finding a cheap accommodation.

Brief History

The first settlers of Pisa were the Liguri, but the city was soon occupied by the Etruscans whose remains can still be seen all over the city. From being a coastal town to an important port during the Roman period, the Romans had the most influence in the city as seen in the layout of the historic city center.

Events, Landmarks, Activities

Thousands of tourists visit Pisa every month of June, not only to enjoy the warm weather and beautiful sights, but also attend its unique festivals including the Gioco del Ponte which features military parades and processions, and the Regatta of Saint Ranieri which is an exciting boat race. A trip to Pisa won't be complete without having your picture taken with the Leaning Tower, which can be found at Piazza dei Miracoli. Other must-see attractions in that area include the Romanesque-style Baptistry, Cathedral of Pisa and Campo Santo.

Transportation

Since Pisa is a compact city, most attractions can be easily reached on foot. Another option is by riding a bicycle and renting one is easy. Getting a taxi in Pisa is not a problem, but most locals prefer riding the bus because it is cheaper. For a unique experience, take the horse-drawn carriage tour found at Piazza dei Miracoli.
