I had the opportunity to spend almost a week at the Platzl Hotel. It is located about a block from the main square--Marianplatz. What an ideal location for branching out to all areas of Munich. I especially appreciated the convenient location of the subway stop that is located a block from the hotel. It made it convenient for getting to the airport since this is station is one of the stops for the airport train. The cost for the train from the Marianplatz to the airport was only about 10 euro compared to almost 75 euro for a taxi. I found the hotel bar very accomadating. The staff was always friendly and welcoming. The breakfast buffet was delicious, but during peak breakfast times there was quite a wait for a clean table. The room was clean and welcoming. It was a very comfortable hotel in the heart of all the action of Munich. I definitely would return there again and highly recommend it.

I stayed at Platzl for 3 nights while on honeymoon in 2001 and LOVED IT!! I had read about it in a Frommers guide as being so close to the Hofbrauhaus that one could "crawl home after a night of carousing!" 100% TRUE!
They also have their own brewery and traditional bavarian costume shop near by!
This was THE BEST LOCATED HOTEL during our honeymoon. I will never stay anywhere else in Munich!!

We would highly recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a comfortable, hospitable and relaxing stay in the Munich Altstadt. The staff were uniformly courteous, warm, efficient and helpful--indeed, eager to make our stay as pleasant as possible. The breakfast was top notch, and every imaginable possibility was provided, including champagne in case you desired a Mimosa. Just when we couldn't be more satisfied with the hotel, the manager sent a bottle of champagne to our room for my partner's birthday! It was a very memorable couple of days, and we look forward to another stay at the Platzl in the future!
PS Be sure to take a peak at the Moorish Spa/Exercise area on the 5th floor!

This little known hotel has the best location in Munich and is a wonderful place to stay whether for leisure or business. I have stayed here many times and always recommend it as the best hotel in Munich, although certainly not the most expensive. The location is next to the Hofbruahaus and a few blocks from the Ratzkeller, and the heart of Munich. The building itself is historic looking and the lobby is spacious and warm. Rooms are nicely laid out and clean. Breakfast comes with the room and is the best hotel breakfast I have had with a large buffet table of meats, cheeses, breads, eggs, sausage and juices.
Overall the Platzl is a terrific hotel in the center of Munich.

My girlfriend and I stayed at the Platzl for 6 days (in the second week of July) and the service, the food (especially your breakfast) was fantastic!!!! We had the best nights sleep (room 201) in our entire European vacation.
Thank you very much for making us feel at home during our stay in München!!!!

My wife and I were guests at the Platzl this summer and we had a very enjoyable visit. The Hotel is within walking distance of a lot of interesting attractions. The staff was courteous and helpful. We would recommend this hotel very highly. Unfortunately we were there during the heat wave this summer and lack of air conditioning was a small inconvenience. You won't go wrong staying at the Platzl. Frank and Mary Ann

The Platzl is in a great location handy walking distance to most places you want to go. The room was spacious and nicely furnished. The only downside was our room had no airconditioning, however the staff were happy to deliver a fan to the room which made it a lot better. The staff were pleasant and the breakfast buffet was excellent. We had dinner in the traditional bavarian restaurant which was very good - top service.

I have stayed at the Platzl on 2 or 3 other occasions and again, the Platzl was consistent with my expectations. It is a well located Hotel in the centre of the Aldstadt (Old Town) next to the Hofbrauhaus and in the middle of the shopping / restaurant district a few minutes walk from the Opera house. The service is always good and efficient and the beds are very comfortable (albeit smaller than American hotel beds.My only gripe on this occasion is that I knew my flight was arriving at midnight and I emailed the reservations office a week earlier to notify them that my partner and I would be checking in late, and could they hold a non-smoking, double-bed room that does not face the beer hall (as these can be noisy in the weekend). We arrived to find that we had been allocated a smoking room (that stank of stale tobacco smoke). We insisted on being moved. The reception staff at first said that the Hotel was fully booked but we were persistent and the reception staff finally agreed to give us a twin non-smoking room. (Funny how these rooms suddenly materialise if you are persistent!). This room was a bit smaller but at 1.30 am, we were happy just to settle in.We had a friend who had checked in earlier in the day and he had been allocated a large non-smoking room (at the same rate that we got our room). Obviously, despite our request, the Hotel had allocated rooms on a first come first served basis. Even so, as he was on his own, wouldn t it have made more sense to allocate him the slightly smaller room?Overall, it is a good hotel that is well priced (great breakfast included) for the area and I would definitely stay there again. A final tip... when making reservations, request a room that is not facing the Hofbrauhaus unless you are a heavy sleeper. Even the street facing rooms can be noisy as people leave the bars/Hard Rock Café etc at all hours of the morning.
