Punta Cana Hotels
Location, Climate
Punta Cana is well-known for its beaches and seaside resorts. It is located on the easternmost province of La Altagracia in the Dominican Republic. The climate of Punta Cana is mild all throughout the year, but those who prefer cooler months can visit the town between November to April. It is not advisable to book cheap hotels in Punta Cana between August and September which are its hurricane season.
Brief History
Spanish explorer Christopher Columbus arrived in Quisgueya in 1492 where he discovered the Tainos civilization. Columbus and his followers used Punta Cana as their base to explore other discoveries. They also built the first monastery, cathedral and hospital in Punta Cana.
Events, Landmarks, Activities
Get ready to put on your dancing shoes and dance to the beat during the Zumba Fitness Music Festival. This week-long festival in October gives you a chance to have fun in the sun while learning how to dance Zumba. There are lots of interesting places to visit in Punta Cana including the historic Santo Domingo, the Mediterranean town of Altos de Chavon and the beautiful Manati Park. Other exciting things to do in Punta Cana include a safari excursion in Bavaro, swimming with the dolphins at Saona Island, snorkeling at Marinarium, scuba diving at Seaquarium and rafting at the Dominican Alps.
Transportation
Most tourists prefer to stroll along the beach, but they take the taxi to get to other areas. Travel in groups to save up on taxi rates. If you are lucky, you can get free shuttle services from Palma Real Shopping Village and Manati Park.
