Brief History
Charles the Great established Pyrenees – Catalan making it part of Marca Hispanica, which is a buffer territory to protect the area from the Moorish attacks. That area was divided into several counties and had gained independence before the 9th century ended. There were many Catalan counts that fell steadily, but Count Miro II the Young and Count Sunyer I remained in power.
